Salt, kept either in canisters or open containers, recently has been included as one of the ‘must-haves’ in the modern-day beauty regimen. A spa can offer a refreshing yet costly all-over body scrub, but you can still treat yourself by spending less. Here is how you can make your own homemade bath salt scrub.
On any homemade products, you will definitely need basic ingredients and tools. It is a good thing that the materials you will need for this bath scrub are those that are accessible, common and affordable.
- Ingredients you will need. Your choice of salt is very necessary. This can be purchased through bulk or wholesale prices. You can consider the likes of sea salt, kosher salt, or Epsom salt mostly found inside some fleur de sel shakers. You can also get a hold of pink Himalayan Sea salt, recognized worldwide as the salt of the earth. This does not only contribute physical benefits like eliminating chlorine residues from the skin, but inner health advantages as well. Moreover, you may want to consider sugar as an alternative if you have sensitive skin. Next, essential oils such as those of almond, grape seed, jojoba, lavender, EVOO and commercial baby oils, as well as baking soda, are important as well for you to come up with a partial mixture. Adding special scents is optional.
- Tools you will use. Tools that you will use are the following: wide-mouthed containers with plastic lids or decorative jars for mixing and storage, some measuring spoons and cups, a wooden stick and a bowl.
- Making the scrub. Combine at least two cups of salt or sugar together with the baking soda in the bowl. Add the oil and mix it well with the wooden stick. Remember, you do not want your mixture to be overly oily. You can make some adjustments to achieve a moist texture, enough to hold these main ingredients all together. After getting the desired results for your bath scrub, you can opt to add drops of aromatherapy scents. You can customize solutions and mix it all up. Pour the mixture into the cleaned jar or container. Some salt particles may settle on the bottom, but this is expected.
Now on to the fun part which is using your homemade masterpiece. It is considered that all scrubs are at their best when applied on dry skin. As you step into the tub, you need to bring along a pair of loofah mitts as back up for the actual scrub. You can find them in health stores. If you do not have a pair, then you can just use your hands. Start scrubbing after taking in spoonfuls of the homemade bath salt scrub onto the loofah or into your hands. The amount that you will need depends on your body size. Pay closer attention to rough areas such as the soles, elbows and feet. These areas are directly affected when you do your daily routines at home and in the workplace. Once done, rinse thoroughly.
