How To Make a Honey Salt Scrub

The key to clean young looking skin is in proper exfoliation. Through regular exfoliation, dead skin cells are removed from the top layer of the skin to reveal healthy new skin cells. This translates to younger, fresher and wrinkle free looking skin.

One of the best ways to exfoliate the skin is to use a good salt scrub. Although there are several brands available in the market, you can actually make your own honey salt scrub right in your very own kitchen. Try this recipe at home. It can be used for both the face and the body since it’s gentle and all natural.

  • Prepare the ingredients. Making a honey salt scrub is as easy as opening your pantry cabinet. The ingredients are staples in just about every kitchen. A basic salt scrub has two ingredients: the abrasive, which is the salt and the oil, which carries the salt. You will need equal parts of honey, olive oil and salt. The best salt to use is sea salt because it has a coarser grain but at the same time, your skin will benefit from the high mineral content. If you have Himalayan pink salt, even better. As an alternative, you may also use coconut oil. Get the best quality ingredients you can find. Use organic whenever possible. As an option, you may put in a few drops of your favorite citrus or lavender essential oil to make your salt scrub an aromatherapy experience. You may also add a few drops of vitamin E oil.
  • Mix it up. Now that you have all your yummy ingredients, get a bowl and mix it all in. There’s no need to measure the ingredients. You can always eyeball it, and your honey salt scrub will come out perfect every single time. Give the bowl a good whisk with a fork, making sure that the ingredients are well blended.
  • Use it. Once mixed, the salt scrub is ready to use! Hit the shower and slather your homemade honey salt scrub on your body or even your face. For greater exfoliation, use exfoliating gloves or a loofah. Pay close attention to the knees, elbows and other rough parts of the body. As you use the product, the salt removes the dead skin cells, while the oil and honey moisturizes your skin. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Store it. The amount of scrub you made is good for one to three uses, depending on how much you consume per shower. If you have any left over, place the scrub in an airtight plastic container. You can leave it in the bathroom or store it in the refrigerator. If you store it in the refrigerator, keep in mind the oil will solidify and the ingredients may separate. If this happens, give the container a good shake or use a fork to whisk everything together again

Making your own honey salt scrub at home is a breeze. It’s economical and makes your daily skin care regimen easier. Plus, because it’s homemade, you know exactly what went into the product and what is going on your skin.
