Fashion is such a big part of growing up, especially for teenagers. The clothes that you wear say something about your personality. If you cannot find something in the store that suits your taste, you can always alter the old clothes that you have so that you can have a “new” item of clothing. You can mix and match patterns and fabrics so that you can have something that no one in the world has. By doing this, you will not only save money by refraining to buy new clothes, you will also get to use your creative juices and create something that will make you stand out.
Here are the steps on how you can create a hooded jacket:
- Materials. First, gather all the materials that you need for this project. You will need an old jacket that you like, a hoodie that you no longer use, scissors, chalk, lots of safety pins, beads, patches and other things that you want to put on your new hooded jacket.
- Preparation. Get your old hoodie and use the scissors to cut off the hood from the seam. Be careful and make sure that you do not cut beyond the line of the hood. This will serve as the hood for your new jacket. Fold your old jacket in half so that you can get its center. Mark the center of the jacket on the collar with the chalk. Also, fold the hood and get it’s center, mark this too with the chalk.
- Attaching the hood. The next step is to attach the hood on the jacket’s collar so that you can come up with a hooded jacket. You will use the safety pins and line them up so that you can attach the hood to the jacket without sewing. If you want, you can put beads on the pin of the safety pin so that they will not look plain. Start from one edge of the hood and attach it with the pins until you get to the other edge. Make sure that you put the pins at equal distances so that the weight of the hood will be equally supported by the safety pins.
- Decorate. Now, you already have a hooded jacket. What’s left for you to do is to put some designs on your new hooded jacket. You can sew on patches, use fabric paint to draw something on the jacket or you can use spray paint to make patterns on the jacket. It is up to you how you are going to design the jacket.
These are the steps on how you can make a hooded jacket from your old jacket and hoodie. You can easily come up with new clothes if you know how to be resourceful. You can turn old jeans into cut-offs, an old shirt into a tube top or even draw designs on your white sneakers. You will surely save more money by doing this rather than shopping for new clothes all the time.
