Hair removal wax can be very expensive if you were to buy it yourself from a specialty store. It can even be doubly expensive if you were to go to a salon to have a professional wax on your legs and the rest of your body. During these hard economic times, it would be a better option to do the waxing yourself at home with the use of homemade hair removal wax.

Body waxes used for removing hair are commonly called epilators. The concept is fairly simple. The wax is a very sticky substance that can easily pull out hair from its follicle without much fanfare. Waxing can be quite painful for some people but it sure beats shaving the unwanted hair out. It has been proven that shaving can cause greater degrees of irritation and could result in infection. The hair also grows a lot slower in parts of the body that are waxed compared to those that are shaved with a sharp razor.

Hair removal creams work in a different way. These creams weaken the bond between the hair strand and the follicle to make the former fall almost effortlessly. These creams are usually wiped off with a tissue or piece of cloth. They can also be used in tandem with a hair removal machine for easier removal.

There are various recipes for home made hair removal wax but a lot of people swear by this recipe.

You will be needing:

  • 7 ounces of sugar,
  • 7 ounces of honey, and
  • juice squeezed from half a lemon.

Here’s how you prepare the wax.

  1. Pour the sugar in a saucepan and heat it on a stove until it caramelizes. This is when you can see almost all the granules of sugar turning into a hot syrup.
  2. Once you have the sugar caramelized, you can now add the honey and the lemon. This is a very sticky combination of ingredients so make sure that you keep on stirring it to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  3. Once all the ingredients have already been combined successfully, you may then proceed to dumping the resulting mixture onto a clean towel. This process might create permanent stains on the towel so make sure that you’re using an old towel for this step.
  4. The mixture is now ready to be used for back waxing or as general body wax. Just simply apply it to the area you want waxed and wait for it to set. With the use of a cotton strip, make quick tugging motions to lift up the unwanted hair and make your legs, back and bikini line hair free.
  5. Make sure you bathe after using this homemade wax recipe, as it is pretty sticky.

Self-waxing can sometimes be a difficult task, though, especially if it involves hard-to-reach areas, like the back. For this purpose, you might want to ask a friend or family member to help out. Making your own hair removal wax at home is one sure way to save money in these trying times.
