How To Prepare for Waxing

Waxing is an efficient and effective way to get rid of excessive hair.  There are, however, steps that should be taken to ensure that the body waxing is done correctly and painlessly.  If you follow these waxing tips, the hair removal experience should be effortless.

First, find a reputable day spa or beauty salon to perform the waxing.  Most decent salons will have their certifications on display.  If not, ask the esthetician how long she has been waxing and which waxing procedure she uses.  Additionally, ask about the prices for getting waxed.  A good spa will usually charge at least $12 for an eyebrow wax and at least $40 for a bikini wax.  Each beauty salon may differ in its waxing technique, so be sure to ask about what types of wax are used, if the wax is warm or cold prior to application, and whether paper or cloth strips are used.  Additionally, ensure that the ingredients are safe for your specific skin type.

With your salon chosen, the next step is to prepare your body for waxing.  A couple of hours before the consultation take a Tylenol or Advil.  This will help your body respond to some of the pain associated with waxing.  Also, if you are getting a bikini wax, trim some of the hair, as it is easier and less painful for the wax strip to adhere to hairs that are 1/4 to 1/2 inch long.  Try not to work out or take a shower immediately before the waxing appointment, as the moisture makes it difficult for the strips to grasp the hair.  If you are getting a chin wax, eyebrow wax, or upper lip wax, make sure to remove all make-up prior to the appointment.  If you are getting a leg wax, bikini wax, or Brazilian bikini wax, wear or bring a disposable pair of underwear with you, so the wax does not ruin your clothes.

At the appointment, communicate specifically about what type of waxing service you would like.  Also, ask for or bring some talc powder to apply to the site prior to waxing in order to absorb any moisture.  Although some pain is inherent in waxing, do not hesitate to tell the esthetician if you feel extraordinary pain.  Ask her to place some pressure, with her hand, to the site immediately after the waxing, as this dulls the pain.

With these preparations in place, you are sure to have a better waxing experience.
