How To Prevent Sweaty Palms

Have you ever reached out to shake someone's hand knowing that it is going to feel to them like they are grabbing a sweaty fish? If you answered a yes, you are going to want to know about preventing sweaty palms. Many people have a problem with sweaty palms, but are at a loss on how to prevent them. Not only is it embarrassing to have sweaty palms, but it also produces germs and bacteria. The best thing to do is research this as much as you can and talk to as many people as you can to see what others have done to get help.  Here is a list of ten things that may be able to help.

  • You can rub talcum powder, medicated powder or corn starch on your palms to help soak up the excess moisture.
  • Purchase an antiperspirant that's been especially made for the palms and feet.
  • Keep a wad of tissues in your pockets or purse; when you feel those hands getting sweaty grab a few tissues to dry your hands off.
  • Consider iontophoresis, which is the act of using a mild electrical current to make the skin thicker and stop the flow of sweat to the surface of the skin. This should be done under the supervision of a dermatologist. You can find more information about this procedure here.
  • Consider using Botox. This can prevent the production of sweat and can reduce the incidence of sweaty palms.
  • Make sure that you are maintaining a healthy diet and proper hygiene. Wash your hands regularly. Not only does this remove sweaty buildup, it also cuts down on bacteria and germs.
  • Cut caffeine out of your diet. Caffeine can cause you to sweat. This includes beverages such as coffee, coke and tea just to name a few.
  • Reduce the amount of snacking you do. The more you eat the harder your body has to work to digest food and this produces heat.
  • Paint your palms with an aluminum chloride paint. This will help prevent moisture on the palms.
  • If over the counter remedies do not work, you should make an appointment to see your doctor to make sure you don't have any medical problems. There is a rare condition called hyperhidrosis; this is profuse sweating which occurs at inappropriate times, such as when you are not hot or not exercising.
