Removing a piercing can be necessary for employment or medical reasons. Eyebrow rings, in particular, may need to be removed while you are at work. These are actually pretty easy to take out if you follow a few simple steps.
First, you should wash your hands with an antibacterial soap and warm water. You can also use latex gloves for added protection. Then wash the eyebrow ring with the antibacterial soap and room temperature water. Do not use hot water because it can irritate the delicate skin around the eye and even burn or scald it.
You need to look and see how the eyebrow ring comes apart. There are two main types of jewelry: the barbell and the captive ball ring. Barbells are a little easier to remove than the rings.
To remove a barbell, hold the barbell firmly with one hand and twist the ball in a clockwise direction to loosen it. Once you get the ball off, gently pull the bar out of the skin. With a hoop or ring, you will have to twist the hoop ends in opposite directions to release the bead. Once the bead is out you can gently work the hoop out of the skin. If you feel any pain or discomfort at all, stop what you are doing. It should not hurt and it should not be hard to remove. This should all be done as gently as possible because, as stated before, the skin around the eyes is very delicate and you do not want to damage or tear it in any way. If you need a little lubrication, try using an antibiotic ointment to help the eyebrow ring slide through the skin easier.
If you cannot get the jewelry out on your own or are having trouble seeing what it is you are doing, you can get a friend or family member to help you. Just be sure she washes her hands before touching the eyebrow ring. You do not want to spread bacteria into the open skin. If you cannot find anyone to help you, you can also try setting up a second mirror to help with visual angles. Think of the dressing room mirrors at clothing stores.
After you have removed the jewelry you will need to clean it before you store it. That way it will be ready to be put back in when you're able to do so. With practice, it will become easier to remove your eyebrow ring.
