Acne, or acne vulgaris, is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease which leaves marks on the affected area called acne scars. Acne may affect one's face, neck, chest and back. Acne most frequently affects teens and preteens but can also affect people of ages 25 to 40 or beyond. Acne is very irritating, and can have a serious effect on a person's self-esteem. Scar treatments like cosmetic surgery can be very expensive and painful for the removal of acne scars. If you prefer to heal it yourself naturally, here are several ways of doing it.
Apply hydroxy acid cleanser to your face daily. This type of cleanser regenerates skin cells which removes damaged skin cells and replaces these with new ones. The cleanser is capable of skin regeneration which means new skin cells are developed to substitute for the damaged skin cells. You can apply a small amount of sugar after cleansing. You can rub it in for a minute then rinse it with water to avoid skin irritation.
Soak skin in a non-comedogenic oil. A non-comedogenic oil is specifically designed to loosen dead skin cells. Get some olive oil and smear it on the infected parts using your fingers. Concentrate on the parts where acne scars are located and apply some pressure on these. When done, get a towel soaked in hot water then rub it on your face to warm up the oil and loosen dead skin cells. Be sure to wash your hands beforehand, to make sure they're dirt-free before applying oils to your face.
Massage acne scars gently. By gently massaging your acne scars with your finger, you are helping blood circulate through the scarred tissue and heal these. Massaging improves blood circulation, which helps your skin absorb more nutrients from your body, thereby promoting healing.
Use facial exfoliants. Exfoliating removes old skin cells and promotes the growth of new, undamaged skin cells. A gentle facial scrub will help you remove your scarred skin and give way for a new layer to grow. Regularly exfoliate for better results.
Use whitening creams. Acne often leaves dark spots on your skin. To have an even skin tone, apply whitening cream on the acne scars to bring your skin back in its original form. Whitening creams also allow your acne scars to blend with the surrounding unaffected parts of your skin.
Eat fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables contain different vitamins and minerals that help you regain your natural skin. Vitamins and minerals from fruits and vegetables heal acne scars and keep your body healthy.
Nowadays, acne scars can easily be removed by surgical treatment. However, some people still prefer to heal it naturally for some reasons, like cost and potential pain. Smoothening acne scars the natural way will require some effort and patience, because treatment will usually be longer-term. However, you will appreciate the results, especially if you're able to give your skin and your body a healthier treatment through vitamins, proper hygiene and care.
