Get Rid of Old Clothes and Get Some New Ones for Free

Difficulty: Very Easy
Cost: $1-$50

Throwing a wardrobe party can be really fun--you lose your clutter, gain more clothes and even earn a bit of money! Just follow the simple steps below.

  1. Make some invitations, and tell all your friends! The more people you invite, the better range you'll have. I reckon that inviting about 10 is a good number. Below is a basic template of what you'll need to say, but remember to jazz it up a bit. You might even want to print out this article, so they also know what to do and what to expect.

    WARDROBE PARTY!

Bring any clothes you can't wear anymore, and come and swap them for ones you can!

    WHEN: 24th November, 12PM
WHERE: Emily's house, 24 Thomas Road, Galston
BRING: A plate of food to share and all the clothes that you can't wear!
    RSVP: 20th November, 0455-229-530

  2. Declutter! Now it's time to go through you wardrobe and get rid of all the clothes you no longer wear, even the expensive ones. You need to be a bit tough about this. Don't get sentimental: If you don't wear it, it's no good to you, and someone else might just love it! You can even turn this into another job altogether and reorganize your wardrobe. Put all the clothes you're going to bring in a few big bags.
  3. The day before the party. Set aside a nice big space, like the size of a whole room, and make as much floor space as possible. Bring in as many seats as needed, and a big table for all the food. Make sure you've got some music to put everyone in the mood.
  4. When everyone has arrived and is ready to sort through clothes, let one person at a time put her clothes in the middle, and those clothes are pretty much up for grabs. People can take what they want, but try and limit it so one person doesn't hog the lot. The stuff left over can go in a separate pile, preferably in another room so it doesn't get mixed up. Continue this process until everyone is done.
  5. With the clothes left over, you can take them to a vintage shop, and/or sell them online and split the money among the group. eBay is a great way to do this, and it can earn you a tidy sum if you've got something worth selling. Don't forget to take a flattering picture of each of the items, and nominate someone to be in charge of the selling administration (i.e. posting and collecting money). My personal opinion is that this person should get a bigger share in the end, as it's a bit of work to get things on eBay, but it's up to you and the group.

And there you have it, a fabulous party, and a new wardrobe!
