How to Tie a Turtleneck Knot

Scarves are the ideal fashion accessory.  Wearing one can add sophistication to a business outfit or a bit of glam for a night on the town.  Opting for a patterned scarf with a solid outfit, or vice versa, adds class and versatility.  They're also  perfect for keeping yourself warm while looking good.  Of course, if you don't properly wear the scarf, your sophistication and glam is lost in a haphazard knot around your neck.  The turtleneck knot is popular because of its ease to make and fashionable style.

1. Start the turtleneck knot by laying the scarf out on a flat surface.  Bring two opposite corners together to form a triangle.
2. Grab the triangle you just made by the two corners that are connected to the middle of the scarf.  The third corner is left untouched when you tie a turtleneck knot.
3. Using the two corners, bring the scarf up to your neck with the third corner (the broad side) lying down across your chest and the others behind your neck.
4. Tie it behind your neck and then carefully twist the turtleneck knot around so that it is front of you.  Tie another knot while paying closer attention to the length you want the scarf to lay and the strength of the knot.  If you are working with a scarf that is made of thicker material or is slightly too small to have enough excess fabric to tie another knot, use a safety pin to attach the ends.   Make sure to add the pin to the inside of the scarf so it will be concealed.
5. Once more, twist the scarf so that the broad point is lying across your chest.  You have just tied a turtleneck knot.

The turtleneck knot is popular because of its versatility. Both men and women can pull off the turtleneck knot with ease, due to the many ways it can be worn. Wear it in the traditional position described above, or twist it halfway so that the point is lying across your shoulder.  Tuck it into the ruffles of a pleated blouse to add a little height to your shirt without covering up its original design.  You could also wear the turtleneck knot with a button up shirt with the top few buttons left open.  Allow the turtleneck scarf to casually drape over to add a little appeal.
