Facial acne is a medical condition that usually affects teens who are going through puberty. Acne can also appear on the chest area, the shoulders and on the back. According to research, about 90% of teenagers are affected by acne. Acne can be characterized by blemishes or pimples on the affected area. Acne can be caused by hormonal imbalance, stress, use of drugs and by bacteria. Acne can also be hereditary.

There are several treatments you can do in order to prevent or lessen the pimples on your face. It is best to consult a dermatologist for severe cases of acne, as a special solution might be needed in order for the acne to fully disappear.

Here are some of the treatments or practices which will help minimize facial acne:

  • Washing Your Face. One of the things that trigger acne is the presence of oil on the face. To prevent oil from building up in your pores, you must always wash your face with water and facial wash. Do this in the morning, before you go to bed and after activities wherein you sweat a lot or are exposed to dirt. It will also be helpful if you have a facial every few weeks.
  • Acne Creams. Another thing you can use to treat your facial acne is acne creams or acne lotions. There are a lot of over-the-counter products from which you can choose. Most of these products contain an anti-bacterial component called benzoyl peroxide. This is good to use for mild acne. There are also some antibiotics that you can apply to your face to reduce facial acne, including clindamycin and erythromycin. These prevent bacteria from entering the pores and also kill any bacteria that are already inside the follicle.
  • Oral Medication. In severe cases of acne, the dermatologist can prescribe accutane acne medication or roaccutane. This medicine stops the development of acne on the face and other regions of the body. It is capable of shrinking the size of oil glands. This also lessens the oil produced by the skin and fewer pimples are formed. Accutane is said to have anti-inflammatory elements that reduce the appearance of large pimples on the face.
  • Assistance From a Dermatologist. It is important that you seek the help of a dermatologist if your facial acne is bothering you. They may have facial treatments which are ideal for the type of skin that you have. You also have to go through facial cleaning at least once a month so that the formation of pimples is decreased and to unclog your pores.

These are some of the treatments that are used for facial acne. Before trying out over-the-counter medicines, it is advisable to seek help from a dermatologist so that the proper dosage or type of medicine can be given to you. Not all skin types are the same. One product can work well with another person but will not work well on you. That is why it is better to go in for consultation before applying different products on your face.
