How To Make a Tomb Raider Costume

First, you need to decide if you want to channel Angelina Jolie in the movie version of Tomb Raider and wear all black, or try a more classic look from the video game. Since Lara Croft has several outfits in the games and movies, either Tomb Raider costume will be considered an authentic version. However, your costume choice depends on your preference and what you can find for your costume.

  1. The first step for either is to start with the hair. Lara Croft wears her dark brown hair in a braid, ending about halfway down her back. If you have long hair, just dye your hair darker if needed and braid. If you need to use a wig, make sure to find a dark brown wig with a long braid.
  2. Next, you need to find some tight-fitting brown khaki shorts and a tight light blue tank top. If you are going for the Angelina Jolie version of the Tomb Raider costume, you need black shorts and a black tank top. It also might not be a bad idea to wear a push-up bra or stuff your bra since Lara is known for being busty. Make sure both the shorts and the tank top are tight-fitting, because this is a Tomb Raider costume and it needs to be sexy. Pull on some black combat boots or black boots that lace up almost to mid-calf. If you are opting to wear something besides combat boots, make sure the boots do not have heels. Lara doesn't climb walls and fight in high-heeled boots! Weight-lifting gloves will work well for this costume, but you could also substitute almost any black fingerless gloves too.
  3. Now it's time for the Tomb Raider accessories. Pick up some leg holsters at a sporting goods store or costume shop. Since Lara usually uses pistols, find some toy pistols at a costume or toy shop. Since it might be difficult to find leg holsters, you could make your own with Velcro or elastic strips, but this is an important part of the costume so don't leave it out. Try to find a small brown backpack like Lara carries in the video game. Not only will it double as a purse, but you can carry other Tomb Raider essentials like rope, a compass, and a first aid kit. Finish your Tomb Raider costume with a pair of black wireless sunglasses and your best British accent.
