A finance club is a group of people who have come together in order to gain knowledge and experience in the financial industry.  Found almost exclusively on college campuses, they provide an opportunity for students to meet with successful, real-world professionals who are working in various areas of the finance industry.

Considering the many different types of careers that fall under the ‘finance’ heading, the clubs can sometimes have a very broad scope.  Students who join and follow the regular meetings will find themselves learning about nearly every aspect of the financial world.

To join a finance club, you usually need to be a member of the college or university where it is headquartered.  This is not always the case, though, since a few clubs allow anyone meeting certain other criteria to join.

Most finance clubs will also require some type of business degree to join.  If a degree has not yet been achieved, some clubs allow those who are enrolled in finance classes to join.

The final, universal, requirement to join a finance club will be the payment of an annual membership fee.  This fee is usually nominal, but will help pay for events that the club sponsors for its members.

The strict rules that must be met in order to join are in place because one of the larger benefits of belonging to a finance club is the opportunity to network amongst professionals.  It is possible to gain an internship with a financial institution or even a permanent job through connections established within the club.  In fact, the majority of these clubs publish booklets similar to yearbooks that contain contact information about their members.  These booklets are sometimes distributed to recruiting agents in the finance industry.

It is very common for former club members to return to the club and hold a lecture or take part in some event.  Alumni are a valuable tool for finance clubs because, when very successful, they offer a candid window into the professional world.  They may also give preferential treatment to members of the club who are seeking employment.

There are many advantages to joining a finance club.  For those who are actively seeking careers in finance, the requirements to join should be easily met.
