Lamps are not just fragile and delicate but are expensive as well. Packing them for a move is especially challenging if you do not know the basics. Follow these steps to make sure that you protect your lamps from unnecessary damage.
- Purchase everything you need for packing the lamps. Purchase boxes that are large enough to accommodate the lamps. Since it may be difficult to find tall boxes from regular stores, then purchasing them from a company that manufactures specialty boxes may be necessary. Aside from the boxes, acquire several rolls of those brown packaging tapes, and sheets of bubble wraps, and also a marker. Additionally, have some old newspapers, some old clothes or spare foam as these will be used to cushion the lamps.
- Prepare the box you will be using to pack the lamps in. First, check to see if the box is too large for the lamp. Too big a box will necessitate too many rolls of packaging tape, bubble wraps and cushioning just to make sure the lamp is securely settled inside. Although you can fit in two or more lamps inside a box, it is not recommended at all. If the box is indeed too big, then consider cutting away the excess. Make sure that you seal the cut portions with packaging tape after doing so. Next is to reinforce the box container with packaging tape. This is to ensure that the box will not tear away or unravel during the hauling. Wrap packaging tape all around the body of the box especially the bottom. Strengthen it some more by providing two or more layers of packaging tape.
- Prepare the lamp for packaging. Unscrew the lamp bulb, place it inside a bubble wrap, and tuck ends with tape. Secure the lamp wires by winding it around the bottom portion of the lamp. You can use rubber bands to tuck the ends of the wires, or you can simply slip the end through the wound wire. Grab a considerable length of bubble wrap and envelope the entire lamp with it. If you have sufficient supply of bubble wrap, then by all means reinforce the lamp with some more sheets of it. Make sure that you tape the ends of the bubble wrap tightly to prevent it from unraveling.
- Finish off packing the lamp. Place the lamp on its base first to make sure that it will stand. Put in the bubble wrap containing the bulb. Place old foam, clothes, or newspaper to cushion them in. Seal the box with sufficient layers of packaging tape. Make sure that you label the box of its contents to make sure people hauling it will know it's fragile.
To make packing your things efficient, get everything ready and sorted out first. This will help avoid delays to an already hectic packing schedule.
