In today's economy merchants are aware that customers are looking for good prices and good deals. One of the ways merchants are reaching to the customer is through rebates. There are different types of rebates. Every weekend you can see in the Sunday paper stores advertising Instant Rebate and Mailing Rebates. To use rebates that are instant you just remind the person that is helping with your special order or to the cashier at the register that your purchase has an instant rebate. They will make the discount to the original price.

The mailing rebates work differently and do require more steps. To use rebates that are mailed in, first, ask the associate helping you for a copy of the rebate form. You need to read all the instructions. What purchases apply? What do you need to mail? What is the deadline to send the paperwork? Are they going to send a check, gift card or merchandise? How long is going to take for you to receive the rebate? Most of the time, they are going to ask you for a copy of the receipt and the rebate form filled out. In some cases they will accept duplicate receipts. If duplicate receipts are acceptable ask the cashier to print one for you.

Before you mail out the paperwork make a copy of the rebate form or ask the cashier for an extra one. Some places have a phone number to track the rebate status. The phone number will be printed in the rebate form with the rebate code. If you keep a copy of the rebate you will have all the required information at hand.

Some mail in rebates will give you the option to submit the rebate online. This option will save you time and the worries of sending all the correct paperwork. You need to log in in to the specified page and fill out the online form with all your information and the receipt information. After submitting the form, most of the time, you will get a confirmation number. Print the confirmation page or write down the confirmation number. You will need this number when calling if there is any problem with the rebate.

At the bottom of some rebate forms you will have an area where you can decide if you want to receive e-mails from the vendor.  Read it carefully so you can find out what to do if you want or do not want to receive e-mails.
