How To Eat with Your Hands in India

In a country like India, eating with hands is quite a traditional and an ongoing practice, despite the onslaught of western culture and etiquettes.

Eating with hands is the most natural, hassle-free and convenient practice. By using your hand, you are able to feel the temperature and texture of the food; you are in a position to mix different food items well; For people with chewing problems (like lack of teeth), crushing and mashing the food items and mixing well with fluids to make a homogenous paste for easy eating is conveniently done with the hand.

Here are some guidelines on how to eat with your hands.

How To Make Tender and Juicy Pork Chops

Pork chops are a type of meat that can require some fatty ingredients such as butter or oil when you grill them in a pan, while the barbecue may dry them out a bit if they did not soak in a marinade for a while before cooking time. Did you ever consider baking them? If you follow this procedure, not only will you obtain tender, juicy and tasty pork chops, but you will also reduce the amount of fat that you would use to grill them in a pan. Also, once the baking process is complete, you may wish to trim the fat off the meat in order to reduce the amount of fat ingested. Basically, you have more control on what you eat.

Ingredients and cookware required:

How To Serve Your Sweetie Breakfast in Bed

You have decided to make the ultimate sacrifice of crawling out of your warm, cozy bed, padding into the cold, unforgiving kitchen, making a mess that you will have to clean up later . . . all this sacrifice just to serve your sweetie breakfast in bed.

Is it worth it? Every time.

Unless your sweetie sleeps so hard he wouldn't know if the house was falling down around him, it will be hard to make this a surprise. But go for it if you think you can pull it off. If nothing else, do some pre-planning.

The Day Before:

How To Make a Perfect Dumpling

Dumplings are plump, bread-like accompaniments to stews and soup, making it more appetizing and complete, and also adding flavor to the dish. Dumplings should replace the accompaniment of bread as it is used to mop up extra sauce on the plate. It is always used with any African meat-stew and as meat is so expensive nowadays, a stew with little meat and a lot of sauce can be made more substantial and filling with the addition of dumplings. Dumplings for soup are generally small and bite-size, as they are picked up by the spoon and finished in one bite. Here's the recipe.

Dumpling ingredients:

2 cups cake flour

3 teaspoons baking powder

125g margarine or butter

Ice water

Pinch of salt, chopped herbs (parsley or basil, or dried herbs)

Directions:

How To Cook Adobo

Wary to serve a re-heated pork menu to your family? Serve it as another dish, Adobo! It can be made up of fresh or left-over meat of chicken and pork (with the fat), sliced into chunks (1 inch thick from side to side), or as flakes with experimental garnishes for effect. It can even be served fried for breakfast the next day!

Just like any other dish, you can experiment on this versatile Philippine Oriental menu as long as its main ingredients and composition are not greatly altered. Adobo is best cooked in a thick pot with a tight lid. Prepare and do the following steps:

How To Make Trail Mix

Is it trail mix or gorp (gobs of raw protein)? Whatever you want to call it, here is the boost you can enjoy late morning or mid-afternoon, whether you are at work or play.

You will need:

	A big bowl

	Sandwich-size plastic bags

Basic Mix:

	Whole almonds, roasted and salted

	Raisins

	Plain M&Ms

In equal parts, such as 2 cups each, combine the above three ingredients. Mix well. Spoon mixture into sandwich-size bags. Seal and store in freezer.

If you know you are going to be on the go, grab a bag from the freezer and take that pick-me-up along. You will be glad!

How To Bake Banana Bread

Equipment:

2 basic loaf pans
Hand mixer or stationery mixer
3 bowls (1 large, 1 medium, and 1 small)
Dinner plate and potato masher
Measuring cups and spoons, spatula

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place rack in the middle of the oven so there is equal space top and bottom -- this will help the bread to cook evenly.

Basic Ingredients for two loaves:

1 cup shortening (or 1/2 cup shortening and 1/2 cup butter)
2 cups white sugar
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups of mashed, ripe bananas
2 1/2 cups of flour
2 teaspoons soda
1 teaspoon salt

How To Make Egg-Free Latkes

You'll love this recipe at Hanukkah, and I recommend using it many times during the year. We even make these latkes to serve with turkey for Thanksgiving.

Where do latkes come from? And how did they enter the lexicon of American cooking? As portrayed in Fiddler on the Roof, many eastern European emigrants were driven from their shtetls or villages by pogroms (state-sponsored violence). My maternal grandmother was one of them, and she lived her new life in the U.S. in command of the kitchen of a three-family home that is now on the U.S. Register of Historic Places, near Philadelphia. Her latkes and other specialties should be on a register, too. She cooked the family recipes of her homeland in Eastern Europe.

How To Make a Meat Pie

This is your lucky day; you’re about to get a three-for-one deal. Not only will you end up with the most delicious meat pie you have ever tasted, but you will have three different recipes to use again and again. There are five very important steps to follow before you can actually eat the meat pie, though, so read and follow directions carefully. Your family will thank you for it, and your taste buds will thank you.

These recipes are based on meals for a family of four or five. Even if your family is ravenous the first day, you should have enough to make one meat pie. If they restrained themselves from eating you out of house and home, you might even be able to make two meat pies. Freeze the second one for a later date (but that doesn't count as a frozen dinner).

How To Cook the Tastiest Beef Stew

Most people think that a good beef stew requires a crock pot, gravy or a lot of liquid while nutrients drown in liquid and flavor and moisture escape in steam. On top of that, it requires a lot of time, a lot of cleaning and needs a lot of seasoning to add taste to it. Well, here is a different way to make beef stew, keep the maximum of nutrients where they should be in the first place and make it as tasty as can be. Time is not always available in large quantity so you may as well use it efficiently. Just follow these steps!

Ingredients and cooking tools:

How To Make Turkey Gravy

Gravy hits the spot as an accompaniment to meats, stuffing, and mashed potatoes. Homemade gravy is so much richer and filled with flavor than the envelopes of "gravy mix" found in the supermarket that once most folks get the hang of making gravy, they never go back to packaged mixes. Making gravy is really easy. All it takes is the following ingredients and easy steps to one of America's favorite comfort foods!

To make turkey gravy, you will need:

How To Make Mashed Potatoes

One of the most versatile of foods is the simple potato. It can be cooked in many different ways -- baked, fried, barbequed, or boiled.

However, none of those ways is as appealing as mashed potatoes. A dish of mashed potatoes is the ultimate in comfort food, bringing back memories of childhood and Sunday dinner with your family. Mashed potatoes go with most main dishes without overpowering them.

Russet and Yukon Gold potatoes are best for mashing since they have more starch than other potatoes; they make your mashed potatoes fluffier and creamier. You can make the potatoes as plain or as fancy as you want, according to your taste and to the dish you are serving them with. How many potatoes you use depends on how many people you wish to serve. I find that one potato per person is usually enough.

How To Make Tomato Sauce

I've been making this sauce for almost as long as I have been cooking. I'd love to say that I invented it because it embodies so much of the ideology – which mandates simplicity, speed, focus on technique and ingredients – that I like to practice in my craft, but alas, I did not. I learned it from an old friend who learned in from her Abruzzeze mother-in-law. And now, I hope, you will learn it from me.

How To Cook Rice and Egg Fried Rice

Before I begin I would like to say that I am no chef, I love cooking and experimenting with different foods, herbs and spices.

Rice is an incredibly versatile dish, it is quick and easy to cook and goes with a lot of other foods. I would strongly encourage experimenting with rice by adding different herbs & spices.

The two rices I use are

Uncle Bens Long Grain Rice

Tilda Basmati Rice

Both of these are par boiled for speedy cooking.

First thing first, with all rice's you need to soak them to remove the excess starch, this is extremely important and will effect the outcome if not done properly. To soak rice:-

Place the desired quantity of rice in a basin of cold water.

Leave to stand for 5 minutes then stir the rice.

Drain the rice through a sieve.
