Cost: $1-$50

You are in the mood for barbecuing a juicy steak, you put some tasty baked potatoes in the oven and now you wish to add a delicious side dish. What type of side dish could be barbecued? Fresh beans, of course! Now your main question is: "How to barbecue fresh beans?" Here is the answer! Just follow these useful steps!

  1. Wash your beans. Wash your bean by putting them in a clean sink or a container filled with cold water. Add a teaspoon of table salt. This will get rid of the tiny creatures that may cling to your beans. Let them soak for 2 to 5 minutes. This will prevent them from burning on the grill. Don't let them soak too long as you do not want them to become water logged. Gently scrub them with your fingers or a vegetable brush to get rid of any dirt. Dry them thoroughly with a dish cloth or some paper towel.
  2. Let's trim them a bit. Cut the ends of the beans as they are hard and not particularly tasty. This will also allow the steam to enter the beans, circulate easily and cook them thoroughly.
  3. Preparation is the secret. Cut a large sheet of foil. Lightly coat it with olive or canola oil. You can either oil the foil or use a thick coating of cooking spray to keep the beans from sticking to the foil and burning.

Deposit the bean as a single or double layer at the most as it will diminish the cooking time. Otherwise you may need more time to cook them thoroughly. Then season them with salt and pepper. If you have some kosher salt and freshly ground pepper, they would enhance the taste of the beans. Add 2 to 3 heaping tablespoons of butter or margarine on top. Never use it on the bottom as it will burn the beans on the outside while leaving them uncooked and crunchy in the inside.

Put both sides of the foil sheet together and fold them down until the fold is resting on top of the side dish. Then seal both sides and wrap them up underneath that little bundle of beans. It is now ready to be barbecued!

  4. Preheating the barbecue. Turn on the heat of the barbecue. Close the barbecue and wait until you reach a medium heat or high heat (350 or 400 degrees Fahrenheit), depending how many grills your barbecue has to offer you. If you have one main grill, you will use medium heat but if you have an upper grill, you can use a higher temperature.
  5. It's time to barbecue! If you are using medium heat as you have a main grill, put your bundle of beans on closer to the back of the barbecue as it will not be on top of direct heat. If you are using high heat and you have a grill at the upper level, put your beans there. Forget about them for 30 minutes. Then check them by poking them with a fork. You do not want them mushy but a little firm. If you feel too much resistance, add up to 15 minutes in cooking time. Don't open and close the barbecue too often as it adds to cooking time, since the temperature lowers every time you open the lid.
  6. Serve and enjoy! Once your beans are cooked to your liking, carefully open up your foil as the steam may rise and burn you. Serve the barbecued beans and enjoy! You will notice that these fresh beans not only retained all their delicious flavor as well as the taste enhanced by the seasonings, but they also kept all the nutrients that your body needs to stay healthy.

When you taste this savory side dish, you will want to have barbecued beans every time you cook in the outdoors. Fresh beans have never tasted so good!
