Average rating:
Each and every morning we wake up, one of the first things we do in our morning routine is make sure we get our daily fix of coffee.  Whether you make it at your house or go to the nearest coffee shop, millions of people crave that first cup to give their day a kick-start.  The purpose of this article is to make things easier for you, and give you a simple step-by-step process of creating your own perfect morning cup.  No more need to spend a fortune for that café mocha that you can barely pronounce.  With these instructions, you can become your own barista.
Step 1:

Quality over quantity.  Many buyers are easily swayed when it comes to choosing one machine over the other. Bells, whistles and pretty lights typically become an enticing factor to spend that extra few dollars. Unfortunately, some of the best coffee/espresso machines are not extremely expensive and are very simple. Just like anything you purchase, the more it has, the more goes wrong. So it is important to be sure you have invested in a quality machine.

Some of the most effective machines (long lasting:

  • Make only 1 or 2 cups at a time.
  • Have the ability to grind the coffee beans.
  • Can flush clean the system at the press of a button.

Cleaning is important because if neglected, your morning cup will taste a little burnt and even spoiled compared to the therapeutic aura a great cup can instill.

Step 2:

A great machine is only the tool.  Now you need to put that tool to use. Regardless of your machines inclusion of grinder, you want to make sure that the core of that great taste comes from a good grind.

You want to grind you coffee beans and have them in the machine's filter within 25-30 seconds after completion. This ensures that those flavors that are confined within the bean are not completely released once ground. The longer the grounds sit, the more flavor your coffee loses.

This may take a few times to get it right, but you should play with the settings to see if you like fine grounds or thick, which will alter the strength of the coffee. You will notice a bitter taste if the grinds are too fine and a weaker taste if they are too coarse.  Again, this takes practice so don’t get discouraged if it isn’t just right the first few times.

Step 3:

The amount and quality of the water.  You need to understand your machine and give it a few test runs to see how your machine operates. Although many manuals give you a pretty good capacity estimates, you will find sometimes you need to pour more or less water in to get a cup that is not too diluted or too overpowering.

Using filtered water is strongly recommended, since water with a lot of impurities is highly oxygenated and will cause a loss in flavor while passing through the grounds.

Step 4:

With that freshly brewed shot.  You have the option of making a variety of drinks. Try something different every morning and discover new ways to wake up your mornings.  Some of the more popular coffee drinks that have an espresso base are the café mocha, mocha latte, or plain latte.  To make a latte, you simply add your choice of syrup-based flavoring and combine the espresso with frothed milk, and for café mocha, you use chocolate syrup.

These are just a few simple steps to get you started on becoming your own mocha master.  Remember practice makes perfect and have fun with the experience.
