There are plenty of times when you bake a cake and you want to dress it up with something that is not as heavy as a traditional frosting. What do you do? Decorate the cake with a glaze! Here's how to make a basic glaze for any type of cake such as a bundt cake, tube cake, square coffee cake or a basic 10x13 sheet cake.

  1. Gather the ingredients.
    • ¼C butter (melted)
    • 2C powdered sugar
    • 2T milk
    • Alternative ingredients: vanilla, rum extract or Baileys cream
  2. Melt the butter. Make sure the butter is melted in the microwave or in a saucepan.
  3. Place 2 cups of powdered sugar into a bowl.
  4. Combine the butter and sugar. Carefully pour the melted butter into the bowl of powdered sugar.
  5. Add 2 tablespoons of milk. At this time, if you want a slightly different taste, you can add 1 teaspoon of the alternative ingredient.
  6. Decorate the cake. Once the cake is cooled, lightly pour the glaze over sliced pieces or the whole cake for presentation.
