From birthdays to any other sort of occasion, a cake is always welcome to a party! However, sometimes you may not want to buy a store made kind, or you may not even want to get the powder and cheapen the moment. Maybe you would like to make a homemade cake from scratch to make it that much more meaningful. What better kind of cake to make? Everyone's favorite: chocolate!
The first thing that should be done is to preheat the oven to 350 degrees. While we are waiting for that to warm up, take a stick of butter along with an ounce of unsweetened chocolate and put them into a pot or pan to warm up and boil. Make sure it does not boil over though, especially if you have an old electric stove; that kind of mixture can light the stove on fire. As soon as it is done, put it somewhere away from the heat and add two cups of flour, two cups of sugar and a small pinch of salt. Use a whisk to mix it together well.
Get half a cup of buttermilk, two eggs (make sure they are fully beaten first) and about a teaspoon of baking soda, throw it into the mixture and use the whisk to blend it all together until it is smooth. By now, the oven should be heated up at 350 degrees. Pour the cake mixture into a 9x13 pan, place it in the oven and check on it in about half an hour. As you can see, it's easy to make a homemade cake from scratch!
Let's go ahead and add some frosting to the mix while we wait for the cake to finish baking. By melting two squares of chocolate and half a stick of butter (remember to remove it from the heat as soon as it's done, lest it boils over), adding four cups of powdered sugar, two teaspoons of vanilla extract and half a cup of milk (2% milk is always a good choice) and whisking them together, you can have a pourable frosting mixture to simply pour on your cake when it is ready. If you still need to spread it around using a spatula, then by all means, spread your heart out! Once the cake has cooled down, bring it out and enjoy the chocolate goodness!
As it can be seen, it is very easy to make a homemade cake from scratch when you have the time and love to pour into each bowl of batter. Your cake can be even more enjoyable when you try molding it into different shapes; try making a triangle or a star shaped cake for a fun challenge!
