If you ever wake up at eleven at night just craving for something to eat, you can make something quick and easy that won’t be so bad for your health. Sometimes, you simply want to give in to the craving for a nice quick midnight snack.
Here are some ideas for a quick midnight snack.
Prepare your pantry. The best time to prepare for your midnight snack is when you are out grocery shopping in the day. Make sure you have an ample supply of potato chips, deli meats, bread and other ready to eat food items. Pantry staples you should have are cheese, bread, yogurt, potato chips and a few drinks. Have some frozen chicken wings you can toast easily in an oven toaster, in case you get a craving for something heavy and spicy in the middle of the night.
Have some chips and dip. Open a bag of your favorite potato chips. Next, get a bottle of Cheez Whiz and place two heaping scoops in a small glass microwave safe container. Heat on high for thirty seconds. Mix the cheese a bit with a teaspoon to make sure you have an even consistency. Now you have to warm dip for your potato chips. To make it a little healthier, go for whole grain potato chips or the baked variety rather than something fried. If melted cheese isn’t your thing, you can also get a few scoops of low fat cottage cheese and use that as your dip instead.
Make a sandwich. If you want something a little substantial to sink your teeth into, make a quick sandwich. Get two slices of whole wheat bread and toast till golden brown. In the meantime, get a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato and a slice of roast turkey. If you have other deli meats that you prefer to eat, use that instead. You can use ham pastrami, bologna or salami. Because it’s a midnight snack, avoid combining the different meats to create a club sandwich. This will be too heavy for you to eat and you may have a difficult time digesting it so late at night. When the toast is ready, spread a bit of low fat mayonnaise on one slice, and a bit of Dijon mustard on the other. Place the lettuce leaf, tomato and the deli meat and top with the other slice of toast. Voila! It’s ready to eat.
Have some yogurt and berries. If you’re counting calories but you still want something a little sweet, make your own yogurt berry parfait. Get a tall glass. Place a scoop of low fat vanilla yogurt. Next, place a handful of washed blue berries. Top again with another scoop of yogurt. This time, place a few sliced strawberries. You may but a bit of honey on top. Grab a spoon and you’re ready to eat your yogurt parfait! It’s filling, nutritious and is a great way to satisfy your craving for something sweet.
Try any of these three quick and simple ideas the next time you get a craving for a midnight snack.
