To have a healthy lifestyle, you have to eat healthy. As doctors say, we need to have five servings of fruits and vegetables daily. For some people, this is quite a challenge. However, there’s a simple way to incorporate fruits into your daily diet and that is by turning them into fruit shakes.
Turning your fruits into fruit shakes is so easy. You can never go wrong with it. All year round, especially during the hot summer days, it is always fun, to be with the kids to concoct their favorite drinks and to discover new ones. You can mix and match the fruits that you want, and the possibilities are endless.
A perfect mix would be strawberry and mango. Strawberries are considered to belong to the bright reds, which are foods rich in caretenoid lycopene that helps the body to rid itself of free radicals, which damage genes. Aside from that, it also has vitamin C, and is an excellent source of vitamin K and manganese, as well as folic acid, potassium, riboflavin, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, copper, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids. Mangoes on the other hand, contain phenols, this phenolic compound have powerful antioxidant and anticancer abilities. It is a rich source of vitamin A or beta–carotene, vitamin E, which is good for the skin, and Selenium which help prevent heart diseases.
Here’s how to make Strawberry Mango milkshake. You will need the following:
- 10 pieces of hulled fresh strawberries
To hull a strawberry is to take out its calyx or the green leafy top. To do this, angle a small sharp knife and cut, in a circular motion, around the green leafy top of the strawberry and into the pale flesh directly underneath.)
one large ripe mango, peeled and sliced
- ½ cup of milk (you can use low-fat, depending on your preference)
- 1/3 cup of plain yogurt
- 2 teaspoons of fresh vanilla extract
Now for the sweetener, this will really depend on what you prefer, you can use honey or sugar, whichever you choose you may start with 3 tablespoons and feel free to adjust.
Add around 6 to 8 cubes of ice.
Add all the ingredients except the fruit into the blender and blend gradually increasing speed. When the mixture becomes smooth, add the fruits and blend until completely smooth. Pour contents into a large glass and top with a slice of mango or strawberry. Voila! You can now enjoy the refreshing taste of your own strawberry mango milk shake.
