How To Make Butter Chicken

Butter chicken is a delicious traditional Indian meal. Although it involves a wide range of ingredients, it's actually very easy to cook. This simple curry dish takes just minutes to prepare. Here's how to make butter chicken:

Ingredients and supplies:

  • Chicken breasts
  • Diced onions
  • Olive oil
  • Butter
  • Milk
  • Juice from 1/2 lemon
  • 1/2 can Diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • Garam Masala spice mix
  • Garlic and ginger paste
  • Salt
  • Red chili powder
  • Green cardamom
  • Cinnamon
  • Cumin powder
  • Turmeric powder
  • Skewers or skillet
  • Medium pot
  • Fresh Parsley, for garnish
  1. Cook the chicken. There are several ways to cook the chicken for butter chicken. No matter what method you choose, first slice the chicken breasts into small pieces. Here's one way to cook the chicken: thread them onto skewers, and then barbecue until they turn light brown. If you'd like, you can add some lemon juice onto the top of the chicken pieces for flavor. Alternatively, you can wait until the curry is mixed together, and then cook the chicken right in the curry pan. However, it can take a while longer, since high heat will scorch the milk in the curry sauce so you'll need to cook it over medium heat. For a quicker meal, you can cook the chicken in butter on the stovetop, and then add to the sauce once both are finished cooking.
  2. Combine the seasonings. Fry the onions in a pot with olive oil until they turn light brown. Then add all of the other seasonings and ingredients to the onions. The amount of each ingredient depends on your tastes. Let the mixture cook for fifteen minutes on medium or medium-high heat.
  3. Coat the chicken. Slide the chicken off the skewers into the curry you've just prepared. Spoon the curry sauce over the chicken so that all of the pieces are coated. Let it cook for about ten minutes, and then add a little more butter. Let the curry simmer down so that it is not as runny.
  4. Enjoy! Serve warm, with a garnish of fresh parsley. It is traditionally served with garlic butter Naan bread, rice, black lentils, and a green salad.

Butter chicken has a uniquely sweet and spicy taste. If you love Indian food, or even if you've never tried it, give butter chicken a try! Butter chicken can be made as hot or as mild as you wish. If you want a spicier version, add more Garam Masala. For a creamier version, add more milk, or substitute cream for some of the milk.
