Making a diet shake by yourself is much easier than buying the canned versions at the store, and they're much more delicious! You have more control over the ingredients when you make your own diet shakes, too. You can make diet shakes in many different flavor combinations, or vary the ingredients based on your own specific needs.
Ingredients and supplies:
- Base (Yogurt or milk. Use skim milk for a lower calorie shake. Yogurt makes a creamier shake. For a vegan shake, you can use soy milk.)
- Flavor (Fruits, melon, peanut butter, or avocado are good, healthy choices. You don't have to add just one to your shake. Experiment to find a flavor mixture that you like. Try freezing the fruit, especially bananas, if you want your diet shake to have the texture of a thick milkshake).
- Protein (You can buy protein powder in chocolate or vanilla, or even fruit flavored)
- Ice (optional)
Prepare the ingredients. Measure out your protein powder, and choose the base and flavoring you'll be using. Try a berry shake, or a tropical fruit shake. Peel, slice, and de-seed the fruit. Ice can also be added for texture. For a chocolate shake, add just a little chocolate syrup. For a vanilla shake, add a little vanilla extract. There is no set diet shake recipe; you can vary the amounts of the ingredients, as well as the amount of the shake you are making. Plan on a cup of milk, a scoop of protein powder, and a piece of fruit (a banana or peach, for example) for each shake. You can double, triple, or even quadruple these amounts, as long as the ingredients fit in your blender.
Blend. Now, blend until the ingredients are thoroughly mixed. Stop the blender when the mixture is to the consistency you prefer.
