Difficulty: Very Easy
Cost: $1-$50

Breakfast can often become a boring routine, so why not wake up your taste buds by enjoying some French toast...with a twist? Here's how you make them!

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread (white gets the best results)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of milk
  • ¾ cup of flour
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • Cinnamon powder
  • Butter or margarine
  • Syrup (maple or table)

Cooking tools

  • 1 frying pan
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 spatula
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 large bowl (for dipping the slices of bread)
  • 1 soup ladle

Preparation

  1. Mix the egg, the salt, the sugar, the vanilla and the baking powder with a whisk until homogeneous.
  2. Gradually add small quantities of milk and flour while mixing until all milk and flour have been used and the mix is homogeneous and without any lumps.
  3. Pour a small quantity of the mix in the dipping bowl with a soup ladle.

Cooking time

  1. Preheat the frying pan on high heat and coat it with butter or margarine.
  2. Dip a slice of bread into the mix so both sides are fully covered.
  3. Lift up the slice of bread with your spatula and sprinkle the top with a bit of cinnamon powder.
  4. Once the butter or margarine has melted, put the slice of bread into the frying pan, with the side sprinkled with cinnamon, face down.
  5. Lower the heat to medium-high. Sprinkle the top side of the slice of bread with cinnamon powder.
  6. Check frequently the side down to avoid burning and turn the French toast when the down side is golden brown.
  7. When the down side is cooked, flip the French toast on the other side and grill it until it reaches a golden brown colour.
  8. Once cooked, serve with a generous coating of maple or table syrup on top.
  9. Enjoy!
  10. Repeat the previous steps as this portion makes up to 4 servings of French toast.

Once you taste some French toast with a twist, the twist being the delicious cinnamon, your taste buds will beg for more. Enjoy!
