How To Make Gravy for Thanksgiving

Step by Step Directions for Making a Great Thanksgiving Gravy

One of the most important parts of Thanksgiving dinner is sometimes the one that is forgotten until the last minute, the gravy. A good gravy can really make the meal. Even if you forget you can whip up great gravy with a lot of ingredients you already have available.

Step 1

  • 5 cups turkey stock (or turkey drippings from cooking)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery salt

Step 2

Mixing.  Take a small bowl and mix the flour into the water. While doing this, put the turkey stock (or drippings) into a sauce pan and bring to a boil. Next slowly whisk in the turkey stock (or drippings) into the flour and water mixture. Now you can add the rest of the ingredients, which include the poultry seasoning, the salt, the black pepper, and the celery salt.

Step 3

Boil.  Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, or until you get a consistent thickness to the gravy.

Now you have one of the most important parts of your Thanksgiving dinner. You can use it to liven up your turkey, stuffing, mash potatoes, and whatever else you like.
