Peach cobbler is a delicious dessert that's easy to make. It is also great for breakfast the next morning! The leftovers can be reheated, or even eaten cold. Peach cobbler is always a hit with both kids and adults alike.
Ingredients and supplies:
- 1 can sliced peaches in syrup
- 1 stick of butter
- 2 cups of self-rising flour
- 2 cups of milk
- 2 cups of sugar, plus more to sprinkle
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 13" by 9" baking dish
- Mixing bowl
Pre-cooking work. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Melt the butter and pour it into the bottom of the pan.
Prepare the bottom crust. Mix the flour, milk, and sugar in a bowl, and then pour 3/4 of this mixture into the pan, on top of the melted butter. It will not hold together like regular dough, but should be in crumbles. Lightly press it down into the pan to prepare it for the peach filling.
Add the peach filling. Add the peaches along with the juice from the can, into the cobbler. Do not mix them into the bottom crust. You can also use fresh peaches. If using fresh peaches, cook about 4 cups of sliced peaches over medium or medium-low heat until they are halfway cooked, about 5 to 10 minutes. Then use them as you would sliced peaches, adding both the peaches and the juice in the pan to the cobbler. Once your peaches are in the pan, sprinkle the top of the peaches with sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. You can vary the amount of these toppings to taste.
Prepare to bake. Add the rest of the sugar/flour/milk mixture on top of the peaches, and smooth it down so that it covers the peaches in an even layer. If it's not in an even layer, it may not cook evenly, leaving you with some uncooked crust in the center.
Bake the cobbler. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for approximately 25 to 30 minutes, until the cobbler is light golden brown and starting to bubble. Watch it carefully, or the top crust will begin to burn.
Serve. Cut the cobbler into individual squares, and serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
