How To Make Peach Jam

Nothing brightens up a chilly winter morning as much as the tart and tasty treat of peach jam on toast. To bring a little spring to your winter breakfast or just to enjoy the taste of peaches, try making your own peach jam. Follow these steps and you'll have a jam to savor, in no time!

Step 1

Ingredients and supplies.


  • 4 cups fresh ripe peaches
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 box Sure-Jell fruit pectin mix
  • 5 ½ cups sugar
  • 4 jam jars with airtight lids (each 2 cups)
  • A 6 quarts saucepan
  • Spoon
  • Knife

Step 2

Clean all containers and utensils. Jams and jellies can collect bacteria quickly so before you start to make any jam at home, make certain to wash all implements and vessels that you plan to use.

Step 3

Cut peaches. Wash, peel and pit the peaches. Then slice peaches into fine chunks. Place into saucepan.

Step 4

Add lemon juice and fruit pectin. Add the juice first while stirring. Then continue stirring as you add the box of fruit pectin. Bring the mix to a full boil. Stir constantly while on high heat until the mixture boils fully.

Step 5

Stir in sugar. Slowly add the sugar while stirring. You cannot stop stirring or the mix will begin to form clumps. Bring to a second boil and once boiling begins, continue to stir and boil for one full minute.

Step 6

Remove from heat and skim top. If there is a foam layer on top of your jam mix, skim it off with the spoon as soon as you move the pan from the heat source.

Step 7

Quickly spoon the jam into the jars. Fill to within ¼ inch of the top. The close and seal the jars.

Step 8

Storage and serving. This jam recipe does not seal the containers too airtight. If you have a canner and want to take that step, do so and your jams won't have to be refrigerated until open. If you do not have a canner, then go ahead and refrigerate your jam and use when ready.
