How To Make Pumpkin Custard Pie

First, you must choose the pumpkin to be used. The smaller pumpkins, about five to eight pounds, are the tastier ones and you must choose one that is firm all around. Afterwards, steam the pumpkin to easily remove its seed. Then put it first on the fridge to extend its freshness. You can now prepare all the ingredients including:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cloves (optional if you want to spice it up)
  • Flour
  • Butter

If you don't want to use ready-made graham cracker pie crusts, you can simply do the crust yourself. Just mix the flour, sugar, salt and butter in a mixing bowl. Add water and mix the ingredients until if becomes a nice, smooth dough. Then separate it on a plastic wrap and put it on the fridge for about 30 minutes.

While preparing all the ingredients, you may preheat the oven to 450 degrees. To make the pie pudding, take out the pumpkin from the fridge and combine it with the eggs, sugar, salt and milk. If you desire a spicier mixture, blend in the minced cloves. Stir in the cinnamon for added flavor and mix everything thoroughly. Now it's time to ready the base of your pie.

Take out the chilled dough from the fridge and shape it into a ball, flatten it using your bare hands or if you have a rolling pin. Depending on the thickness you want, work on flattening the dough until the desired results. Spread it on the pie pan and pour over the pumpkin pie mixture. If your oven has multiple layers, it is best to put your pumpkin pie on the lower shelf. After 15 minutes, lower the oven temperature to 400 degrees and leave it for additional 30 minutes. Bake until the pie is golden brown or you can check if the pie is done if you insert a knife and it comes out clean. This dessert is guaranteed to make your family and friends crave for more. Though this recipe only serves eight so when that happens, just double or triple the amount of ingredients to suit the recipe.
