How To Make the Happy Apple Mixed Drink

A Happy Apple Mixed Drink is basically like a simple and easy to mix Appletini (Apple Martini)—only a milder alternative. It has a refreshingly tart and mildly sweet infusion of lemon and citrus flavors. It is preferred by those put off by the stronger, traditional Apple martini drink.

Here’s how to mix your own Happy Apple cocktail.

  • Prepare the ingredients. You will use 1 shot (2.5 cl or 25 ml) of vodka, 1 ½ shots (3.75 cl or 37.5 ml) of De Kuyper sour apple liqueur, ½ cup apple juice, ½ cup freshly-squeezed lime or lemon juice, a splash of ginger ale, a teaspoon of sugar syrup if desired. For the vodka, you can use any kind, but Russian Standard is the best. Freshly-squeezed lime or lemon juice tastes infinitely better, although you can also do with a pre-prepared lime or lemon juice. Sugar syrup is not required, but added only if you want a hint of sweetness in your otherwise tart drink.
  • Mix. Get a cocktail shaker. Pour the vodka, sour apple liqueur, ginger ale, and apple juice in the cocktail shaker. Shake until the ingredients mix together smoothly.
  • Transfer the mixture. Get a sling or cocktail glass. Fill the glass to the top with cubed ice. Transfer the mixture in the cocktail shaker to the sling glass with ice.
  • Flavor it. Pour the ginger ale into the glass. Add a teaspoon of sugar syrup if you prefer a mild, sweet flavor to your drink.
  • Garnish the side of the glass. Use a freshly-cut slice of apple. Do not peel off the skin of the apple slice. Add a sprig of mint.
  • This can be your guide to making a basic Happy Apple mixed drink. You’re free to use apple juice, apple cider, or apple liqueur—depending on what you prefer. You can also adjust the amount depending on how much of the tart apple taste you prefer.
  • As a variation to the Happy Apple Mixed Drink you can use rum. Here’s how to do it.
  • Prepare the ingredients. You will use 1 ½ ounces of light rum, ½ cup of apple cider, ½ cup of freshly-squeezed lime or lemon juice, and a teaspoon of sugar syrup. The light rum is the base ingredient. For the light rum, you can use Bacardi. Bacardi is a world-famous rum that is produced in Puerto Rico. You can be generous with the rum and adjust how much of it you add in your glass—2 ounces to 2 ½ ounces are good if you prefer a stiff drink. Instead of apple cider, you can also use apple juice mixed with a splash of vodka for a bit of spirit.
  • Get a highball glass. Add ice until you fill the top of the glass.
  • Mix the ingredients. Pour rum, apple cider, and lemon or lime juice in the glass. Add a teaspoon of sugar syrup to infuse your drink with a mild sweet flavor. Stir with a straw to make the ingredients mix together nicely.
  • Garnish the side of the glass. Use a freshly-cut slice of apple. Do not peel off the skin of the apple slice. Add a sprig of mint.
