Watermelon adds a fresh twist to alcoholic beverages. Watermelon flavored shots and cocktails are bound to be a hit at any party, and below are recipes that are both fun and classic.
Jolly Melon Shots
1 liter premium vodka such as Smirnoff or Absolut
1-2 pound bag of Jolly Ranchers or other watermelon flavored hard candy
Sort all of the watermelon flavored candy from the bag and unwrap. There should be 40-50 candies, depending on the size of the bag you bought. Pour 1 cup of vodka into a shaker and add the candy. Shake vigorously and place in freezer. Letting the drink sit overnight will yield the best results, but it is perfectly fine to only let it sit for a few hours. Remove from the freezer when it is time for the party, shake, and strain into shot glasses. If you prefer cocktails, simply increase the recipe and serve into old fashioned glasses over ice.
Watermelon Jell-O Shots
6 ounce box of watermelon flavored Jell-O
2 cups boiling water
6 ounces cold water
10 ounces of vodka
Small paper cups or shot glasses
Mix the gelatin into boiling water until dissolved; Add cold water and alcohol. Once the mixture has cooled, pour into serving glasses. Paper cups are recommended so you can turn the cup inside out, resulting in the Jell-O sliding out. If you serve in glass shot glasses, serve with toothpicks so Jell-O loosens from the glass.
While both Watermelon Jell-O Shots and Jolly Melon Shots are fun and delicious, they are time consuming to prepare. For a watermelon shot or cocktail that requires just a few moments, here are some recipes which can easily be prepared.
