Several recipes call for boiled eggs to be peeled. If you are making egg salad, deviled eggs or any other recipe that calls for a number of eggs to be peeled and used, you have probably experienced the irritation of peeling an egg that fell apart in your hands when you tried to peel it. If so, there is a better way. Follow these steps and you will be able to peel an egg with ease.
Materials:
Boiled eggs
Warm water to rinse
- Let the egg cool slowly after boiling. You may be in an hurry and decide to speed up the cooling process by pouring ice water over newly boiled eggs. Doing so makes the eggs harder to peel. Plan ahead so the eggs have enough time to cool slowly.
- Tap the egg against the counter on each end. Sometimes peeling an egg is just about knowing where to start. By tapping each end you get rid of any air bubbles and help the thin membrane or skin stick to the shell instead of the egg.
- Roll the egg on the counter. Gently roll the egg and let the shell crack. Avoid pressing too hard or you will crush the egg.
- Rinse with warm water. Hold the egg under warm running water and brush the shell away. The shell should come off easily under the stream of water.
Peeling eggs can be irritating and wasteful if you don’t take the time to do it right. Follow these instructions and you will be able to peel eggs over and over without the hassle. Then make your favorite egg salad dish or just eat a healthy egg for a snack.
