Beer contains all of the key ingredients for a perfect loaf of bread. Beer bread can be made at home in your kitchen or while camping or during outdoor activities. Here's how to make beer bread.
There are only 3 ingredients in beer bread. They are:
- 3 cups of self rising flour
- 3 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 12 oz. bottle beer at room temperature
Mix all 3 ingredients together. Plop into two greased loaf pans and bake. Remove loaves from oven and immediately baste with butter. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour. Baking time will depend upon elevation and size of loaf.
Beer bread can be prepared the same way while camping and can be cooked in a preheated dutch oven, or in a metal coffee can.
For traditional bread, all you need is:
- 2 cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons yeast
- 1/2 cup sugar
Mix those 3 ingredients and dissolve.
- Add 3 cups additional warm water
- 4-5 teaspoons oil
- 2 teaspoons salt
- Six cups of flour
Knead all ingredients together and let rise 2 hours. After 2 hours, punch dough in the middle to release air. Knead dough again briefly. Oil pan. Flip dough over and let rise again until about 1 1/2 times the size. Knead down dough and form loaves. Place loaves in loaf pans and let rise to about 1/4" below rim of pan. Bake loaves in a 350 degrees Fahrenheit oven for 40 minutes to one hour. This recipe will make 3-5 loaves depending on loaf size. Baking time will vary depending upon elevation and loaf size.
Bread recipes can be used to make pastry dough for cinnamon rolls and other dinner rolls.
To make cinnamon rolls, simply flatten and knead your bread dough after allowing it to rise the second time. Roll the dough out with a rolling pin. Cover the dough with melted butter. Sprinkle a mixture of cinnamon and sugar over the melted butter. Roll the dough from the longest edge until you have a tubular shape. Use dental floss to cut individual rolls from the tube. Place the rolls on a cookie sheet and let rise until acceptable in size. Bake the rolls at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 to 30 minutes. Let cool approximately 10 minutes and frost.
