Sloppy Joes

Difficulty:

This dish brings back fond memories of Daddy, as he loved these Sloppy Joes. Granted, he was a steak and potatoes man, but this was one meat dish that I knew would please him. It has quite a few ingredients, but it's worth it.
Ingredients:
- 1 Pound Ground Beef
- Half a large onion- chopped fine
- 1/4 Teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 Teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon seasoning salt
- 1/2 Teaspoon black pepper
- 1 Tablespoon of your favorite BBQ sauce
- 1/3 Cup ketchup
- 1 Tablespoon honey
- 1 Teaspoon mustard
- 3 Tablespoons salsa
- 2 Teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 Cup pizza sauce or speghetti
Procedure:
- In a cast iron skillet add ground beef and onion. Cook until the hamburger is browned. With a spoon, remove as much of the fat as you can.
- In a small dish, mix all the seasonings together. Sprinkle over the beef mixture and stir.
- Add BBQ sauce, ketchup, honey, mustard, salsa, Worcestershire and pizza or spaghetti sauce. Mix well as you add each ingredient.
- Put heat to low and simmer for about 5 minutes. Mixture will thicken slightly. Serve on hamburger buns or plain bread will do if you don't have the buns.
Sometimes I make my own buns when I have the extra time. The left over pizza or spaghetti sauce you can put in a plastic bag or covered bowl and freeze for later use.
This was one of the last recipes that my dad showed me and asked me to make for him. It remains a favorite in our household and doesn't take long to make either.
