Okay, I wanted to make a video for all you Windows Mobile or pocket PC fans out there about custom firmware. Now, basically I wanted to make this video to get people an idea of what custom firmware is and basically what it is, is that custom release or a custom -- let is put this way. They take out all the junks that AT&T puts on your phone and just put Windows Mobile 6 on it and then adds tools that you would actually use. But basically, the advantage of this is the phone is ready to use, you have a lot of useful applications right out of the box when you install this custom firmware. Now, there are different types of custom firmware. You have custom firmware that requires a hard SPL and what a hard SPL is a bootloader for your phone. So, think of as the bios for your phone and the bios on your computer is what runs the test, opposed test on your computer to make sure all the hardware and cable for it tires to do in the operating system and passes that the processing of the computer over your operating system. Same thing with the bootloader on the phone, now your phone comes with a soft SPL, soft SPLs can be written to and the reason some of these firmwares want you to have a hard SPL is because they do not want you to break the phone more or less. They do not want you to be flashing gongs or it is doing its thing and end up jacking the phone, you know totally ruining the phone, but what I would recommend is check out some firmware or some custom rams that you can get for the phone that come with a safe SPL which is an SSPL which allows you to flash the phone without having to change that SPL because ones you flash that SPL on the phone and make it a hard SPL, you void your manufacturers warranty. So, with that being said, I recommend SSPL for safe flashing without having to void your manufacturers warranty, you can always go back to the official firmware or stick with custom which is ten times better in my opinion. And lastly, on this flashing there is flashing your radios. Now a radio is the actual chip set or the actual software on the phone that runs the chipset. Your CDMA or GSM chip inside these phones, it does not have anything to do with Bluetooth or wireless so do not think that--it is just the carriers chip inside this phone that talks to the towers. Now, you can flash this rams and the reason you would want flash this rams is --not flash the rams, flash the radios, so that you can more or less -- they say that you get better data transmission, better signal, but I really do not think so. I mean honestly is you will have Windows Mobile 6 installed, you are going to have the latest radio, official radio and I do not see any reason to necessarily flash that. I mean especially if you use AT&T I do not see why you would be having similar issues anyway unless you are in the middle of no where and then that is the whole another story. And, this is not going to fix. If you want to flash your radio, you can but it is not going to fix if you are not getting a signal at all. You are still not going to get signal after fixing or flashing the radio. You will get a little bit better signal if you have signal and you will be able to hold on to that signal better but it is not going to pull signal out of nowhere.
