So, in this video I wanted to show everyone how to increase performance in Windows XP and Windows Vista by bumming up your paging file or your virtual memory on your computer. So, basically, this is basically the same for Windows and Vista and XP. So, all you need to do is go in the Control Panel, click on the Systems. Now, on Vista, you want to, in the left hand side, click on Advanced System settings. And when you do that, then you will get a window similar to what I have here on the XP machine. So, you want to click on Advanced tab, then you want to click settings for Performance. You will be viewing with three more tabs and you want to go having click the Advanced tab there. Down at the very bottom, there is a Virtual Memory, a paging file size. So, go ahead and click Change. Now, in Vista, there is a little check box up here that you need to uncheck and then check the bubble for Custom Size. Now, the rule of thumb is 1.5 times the amount of RAM that you currently have in the system. So, if you have 2 gigabytes RAM then you want 3 gigabytes of paging file or virtual memory. If you have 1 gigabyte RAM then you want 2.5 gigs of virtual memory. So, just kind of, judge that yourself. So, in this case mine is set right for what I have. On this virtual machine box you want to click set. After you have done that, go ahead and click “OK.” We are going to click “OK” again. We are going to click “OK” again. Now, if I would have changed that, I would have gotten a pop up in the middle of my screen that asks me to restart because you do need to restart after you make these changes and after that you are all done. You should see a little bit of more performance increase when you are multitasking on the computer.
