[Music Playing] Prior to doing this video I suggest you look at the segment that address the question “How do I make a good first impression?” in it I share with you the basics of preference that going to shaping personality and how people interact according to their preference. The type I will be talking about here is what I will call a player. Someone who is more task focused. All about getting the job done and secondly tend to take a life on the offensive as they are very quick to act. If the question posed in this video sounds like your boss, then this person is most likely a player. Keep in mind that people do not fit neatly in boxes but we all have preference. If we are in positions of power and control though, we tend to fall back on our preferences when dealing with others. Your boss is demonstrating his or her preference. What does this person want? They want to be in charge. They want to be challenged and they are most likely to take risks. They also tend to be impatient. It is better to be moving forward than sitting around and discussing what to do. I would say that this person at their extreme is a bit of a workaholic which is fine if you are but it is hard to deal with them if you are not living to work. They tend to like what I call a pressure cooker situation. They thrive under stress. All of what I said will either appeal to you or turn you off entirely depending on your preference in life. The secret lies in being adaptive to meaning the needs of the others or still maintaining some control over your own life. Here is what this person wants, you need to be prepared when you meet and you need to demonstrate your competent. Once you have shown them that you are good at what you do life will get a lot easier. You also need to be direct and to the point. No small talk and no relationship building in meetings with this type of person. Stick to the topic at hand. Ask them what you need to do and when they need it. Do not pepper them with detailed questions, ask them some general question about what a good deliverable or product looks like to them and then give it to them. One of the tough parts about working for this type of person is the rarely get the good feed back or positive strokes you think you deserve. This person is all about the work and problem solving. So, you have to stick to what interest them and do not let your personal insecurities affect the work relationship. When communicating with this person keep it short and pointed. Do not give them a big history or details of what is happened. Just say what you will do when you will have it done and what the result will accomplish. If you do all of these things, this person may still appear argumentative to you. That means they seem to still be challenging you, well do not worry about that. this person likes to test the limits of ideas and logics so they look for people who will challenge back. If you are competent in their eyes they expect you to push back. Do not shy away from it but keep in mind that ultimately they want to make the decision and you have to have the good grace to accept it. you can handle this person if you start to recognize the player behavior. You might even see yourself as one. Regardless, best of luck.
