How To Get Rid of Bed Bugs

"Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite." This common goodnight verse may be truer than you think. Bed bugs are worldwide travelers, notorious for latching on to luggage items and stowing away to a new destination. When you consider all of the travelers and the hotels and motels all over the world, it is easy to understand why bed bugs seem to be making a comeback.

How To Treat Newborn Constipation

Many newborns have their first stool within 24 hours after being born. But those who suffer from constipation have trouble with this, either having infrequent stools or dry, hard stools that are difficult to pass. These infants may strain to go to the bathroom, drawing the legs up and grunting, and turning red in the face from the effort. Worse, the passing of a hard stool can cause a tear in the rectal wall, which can bleed. All of these symptoms can be very uncomfortable for the baby and a concern for you. If your newborn is constipated, here's what you can do:

Understand that for the first few days of life, your baby will pass meconium, which is a dark green or black substance. By the third day, regular bowel movements should begin. If your baby's stools don't get regular, or if he or she is still passing meconium, this could be a sign that your baby may not be getting enough to eat.

Consider whether you recently switched from breast milk to formula.
How To Learn About Mid-Cycle Spotting

Whether you've always had regular menstrual cycles or never had a regular menstrual cycle in your life, the sudden appearance of mid-cycle spotting can be startling. Spotting is when a small amount of blood is passed, just enough to "spot" your underwear or toilet tissue. The blood spots can be many different colors, from brown to red to pinkish, so don't be too concerned about the color of mid-cycle spotting. Fortunately, mid-cycle spotting is usually nothing to worry about. Here is some information to better understand mid-cycle spotting:

Changes in Hormonal Balance. All of the changes in a woman's menstrual cycle are due to alterations in the progesterone/estrogen balance. Changes in a woman's hormonal balance are especially common in perimenopause.

How To Remove Plantar Warts

Did you know that the same virus at the center of the current cervical cancer awareness is also responsible for plantar warts? Sounds crazy, but it's true - human papillomavirus (or HPV), albeit a different type of the virus than the cervical cancer types, is what causes those painful and ugly plantar warts to appear on the soles of our feet.

What causes plantar warts? People get warts through direct contact with HPV, of which there are many different types. The type that causes plantar warts likes to hang out in damp, warm environments - the kind that arouse your suspicion anyway, like public showers, swimming pools, locker rooms, your roommates shower mat, or communal shoes (if you're sharing shoes with people, you might want to inspect their feet first). If you walk barefoot through these areas, you could acquire plantar warts.

How To Teach Autistic Children

Many techniques of general education are not effective when learning how to teach autistic children. Whether you are home schooling your child or working on an Individualized Education Program (IEP) as part of a public or private school program, autistic children require special considerations.

People have three basic learning styles. Visual learners learn from reading or seeing a demonstration of a skill. Auditory learners learn best from lectures, spoken instructions, or even music. A kinesthetic learner finds that movement helps and that they learn faster, for example, if they imitate a demonstrated action rather than just observing it.

How To Pop a Pimple

So you're preparing for _______ (prom night/wedding day/job interview/State of the Union address), and over the course of one night, it suddenly happens: your face cruelly decides to let Mt. Vesuvius sprout up.

Maybe you found yourself in this situation because your face is in need of better hygiene, hormones are running wild or you're stressed out, or maybe there is no obvious reason, but why now?! It won't help to get angry at your face, or to demand explanation from some higher power, or to question whether there's any dermatological justice in this world (there isn't). Now that you have a pimple, there may be only one thing on your mind - getting rid of it. Whatever you do, make sure you practice the proper pimple-popping precaution, please!

How To Treat Newborn Acne

Some parents are dismayed when their newborn's perfect face suddenly breaks out in tiny red bumps, which is called baby acne. While the condition may look painful, it usually doesn't bother the baby at all. And like many other difficult stages of infancy, this one, too, shall pass.

How To Find Your Pulse

There are many locations on the human body where your pulse can be felt. Your pulse is the pressure wave of blood that is generated when your heart muscles contract. It reflects the rhythm, rate and strength of your heart's contractions. You can feel your pulse anywhere that an artery (a blood vessel that carries blood away from the heart) crosses over a bone and is close to the skin's surface. Some of the most common places to easily find your pulse are listed below.

There are a few things to keep in mind when you're finding your pulse. The first is: don't use your thumb. Your thumb has a pulse of its own, which can trick you into thinking you've found a pulse point when you haven't. This is mainly a concern when you're feeling for someone else's pulse-you don't want to confuse your pulse with theirs. To avoid this problem, always use your forefinger and middle finger to locate a pulse.

How To Buy Condoms

Condoms. Just about everybody buys them at some point, and just about everybody gets embarrassed, confused or frustrated by the experience. Many men and women feel ashamed buying condoms because of our cultural attitudes labeling sex as dirty, and certainly not something to flaunt in public. That's a shame, because except for a few test tube babies, sex is how each and every one of us got here! Others find themselves confused by the variety of condoms available, or are frustrated by past experiences that didn't go so well. So let's talk condoms and clear up some of the confusion--it'll go a long way toward clearing up any reluctance you might have about using one, and hopefully spruce up your sex life as well. Sex is a good thing--and knowing your condoms can be a great way to add a boost to your sex life and protect yourself and your lucky sex partner from horrible things like children and disease!
