Food nourishes our body to keep it in good condition. It helps our body to develop and repair our tissues, a fuel that helps keep our body to function at its best. Food can be either beneficial or destructive to our health. It all depends on what kind of food that we are going to eat. We have seven essential food components, which are water, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, protein, fats and fiber. When it comes to diet we have to make sure that we are going to eat not just for the sake of looking skinny, but we also have to be certain that the food that we eat nourishes our body to keep it in a healthy condition. Here are some healthy dieting tips:
- Begin your day with a nutritious and healthy breakfast. It is the most crucial meal of the day because breakfast will dictate your metabolism throughout the day. Metabolism is the ability of your body to convert the food and other elements into energy.
- Never skip meals because it will slow down your metabolism. Actually eating more often with less amount of food is more effective than to have just one meal a day with a large quantity of food.
- Choose whole grain foods because they contains more fiber. Whole grain food examples are brown rice, whole-wheat bread and whole grain breakfast cereals. Eating whole grain foods will help prevent heart disease and diabetes. It also helps in weight loss because whole grain foods will make you feel less starved for a longer period.
- It’s okay to crave for sweet treats as long that they are fruits and vegetables such as corn, strawberry, sweet potatoes, mango and apple. Bright colored fruits are better because they contain higher amount of vitamins and minerals.
- Eat lots of green leafy vegetables because they are packed with nutrients and avoid those that are smothered with dressings.
- Instead of soda, choose a natural fruit juice. Not the artificial fruit juice that is full of sugar.
- Watch your dairy food intake. Dairy products are rich in calcium and vitamin D, which are essential for stronger bones and teeth. Choose low fat or the non-fat dairy products.
- Eat more fish, not only does it have less fat but it is also packed with protein that is essential for muscle growth, heart, and tissues inside our body. Watch out for big fish such as shark because they contain large amount of mercury that can lead to other complications.
- Eat less salty food. The allowed intake of salt is 6 grams per day. Too much salty food leads to water retention that not only makes you look bigger but damages your kidneys as well.
- Drink plenty of water. The amount of water needed for each individual depends on weight and their physical activities. Water is important to our health because not only does it help transport nutrients throughout our body, but it is also needed to digest solid foods.
A healthy diet improves your appearance, gives lots of energy, and makes you feel great while losing those extra pounds. It is necessary to have an active lifestyle to be healthy, and also to burn those extra calories and keep our heart and lungs healthy. The key to a successful healthy diet is commitment.
