Gradually Introduce Raw Food into Your Everyday Eating Plan

Difficulty: Moderate
Cost: $1-$50

The benefits of raw food include the improvement of bloating, PMS, fatigue, immune system function, wrinkles, over-active appetite, aches and pains, diabetes, thyroid function, hypertension, cellulite, weight issues and general well-being. While the results take a bit of time, the journey can be just as exciting as the destination!

How to include more raw food every day:

  1. Make small changes to start with. Replace one of your meals a day with a fresh raw salad. Get creative! There are so many scrumptious vegetables to choose from! Higher quality of fiber means better elimination and less constipation.
  2. Start the day with a tasty fruit salad with nuts and seeds.
  3. Supplement a meal with a fresh raw vegetable juice. Instead of tea, coffee or soft drinks, enjoy raw food which has naturally higher concentrations of vitamins and minerals, essential for your body to repair and protect itself.
  4. Chomp on raw carrots, celery or cucumber. Heating and over-cooking changes the food’s chemical structure, rendering them useless to the body.
  5. Eat a handful of nuts. Instead of processed snacks, eat plenty of beans, nuts, seeds and avocados to ensure you get the right types and amounts of good fats.
  6. Make a tasty fruit bowl as your mid-morning snack.
  7. Add a little olive oil and lemon to dishes. Processed sauces and dressings contain preservatives.
  8. Create a palatable dressing for your meal. Get into the kitchen! Make dressings from olive oil, lemon juice, basil, sage and sesame seeds and a variety of herbs. You can even blend together different nuts, tomatoes, avocado,
    lemon and garlic.
  9. Keep your taste buds entertained. Eat a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. The vitamins have not been destroyed as with cooked foods. Therefore your body will experience fewer cravings.
  10. Keep food in its natural state. Remember the further a food gets from its natural taste, the less healthy it is.

As the raw food expels the toxins and introduces into your body ample vitamins and minerals, you may experience elimination effects such as tiredness, irritability or headaches. Be patient! The long-term benefits will be well worth it!

Great reminders to take better care of ourselves. Your advice reminds me of my favorite TV show, BBC America's "You Are What You Eat." I hope more people jump on a healthy band wagon!

Good simple ways to do as most of us really have a hard time in this.

I love the simple tips! I'd like to add a couple of things too; 1) hypothyroid people should be careful about consuming the raw, green veggies (i.e. kale, cabbage, etc.) as it can slow down an already sluggish thyroid, and 2) regarding olive oil as a dressing - you can get that "creamy" taste for your salad dressing by adding a little plain vanilla yogurt to your olive oil and lime dressing... you get the taste of mayo without all the gunk.
