Osteoporosis can be avoided if you follow a few simple steps. The earlier in life that you start your prevention program, the more likely it is that you will succeed and live a long life free of osteoporosis.
There are some things that you must do and a few things you must not do:
Get at least 15 minutes of sunshine a day. We have become so fond of sunscreen that we are "giving" ourselves osteoporosis. You can take all the minerals and vitamins that you want but most of it is of no value unless you can get sun at least on your legs and arms.
Eat foods that are colorful and as near to their raw state as possible. If you cook vegetables too much, for example, you will lose all of the nutrients.
Avoid sodas and do not smoke.
Avoid antacids. If you take "the purple pill" of other antacids they will cause you to have to take more calcium foods, magnesium, vitamin D and boron.
Do some of your daily exercise using weights on your hands and legs. Do strength and flexibility exercises as well.
Take your daily supplements and make sure you take extra vitamin D, and magnesium. Magnesium is easy to take in the form of a spray for the skin.
If your physician will not get a vitamin D level on you, you can order a home test online. There is a lot of information on vitamin D and the many things it does for us.
Osteoporosis is silent and often won't appear until you break a bone. Don't wait for this to happen. Osteomalacia is another very painful disease and is an indicator that you have a real problem.
We can defeat both of these terrible diseases and save millions of dollars in medical costs by following the simple steps listed above.
