Prevention of falls is one of the most important things you can do to stay healthy and keeping your body healthy, so if you do fall you will not be injured.
Step 1:
- Keep your home as clutter free as possible and keep your usual paths free of furniture, rugs, etc.
- Never walk in a dark room; make use of a night-light or keep a flashlight handy and use it.
- Pick up your feet when you walk, don't shuffle or drag your feet.
- Clean up spills quickly.
- I know it is difficult to do but your pets need to be trained not to stand or walk near your feet.
- Observe the world around you and when you are outdoors always be aware of your surroundings, where are the stones, holes, "junk," or tree roots are located.
- Use handrails where available and if you are unsteady on your feet, use a walker or cane.
- Keep your vision and hearing keen and if you have a pair of shoes that cause you to stumble or shuffle your feet, throw them away.
Step 2:
There are some things to do about nutrition and exercise that will assist you in preventing the injury if you do fall.
- Exercise for strength and flexibility, you can put together your own program or go to a gym, either way I believe you need a trainer for a few sessions to show you how to reach your goals.
- Keep your skeleton healthy; if you need to improve your bone health, you and your physician need to work on natural ways to do this.
- I think you need to have adequate amounts of calcium, magnesium, boron, vitamin C, vitamin D and plenty of sunshine. If you are having problems with osteoporosis you may also need to go to a compounding pharmacist to get a reading on all your hormone levels.
