Summer might be absolutely fun if there weren’t a thing called summertime blues. You might want to enjoy the beach and the sun and be carefree all you want, but there’s something about summer that seems to make you down. If you want to enjoy summer for all its worth, learn to ease those summertime blues away. Here are some tips.
- Throw a house party. Maybe you are having summertime blues because you’ve been separated from the important people in your life. If that’s the case, why not gather your loved ones and friends and have a party? Summer after all is one of the best times to party and be surrounded with special people. You can, for instance, have a barbeque party at your backyard. Make a beach-like setting by propping up your backyard with beach balls and sand. Or if you want, you can also have a movie party. Line up around three DVD movies and see them all in succession. Prepare a variety of popcorn, nachos, chips and dips, sodas, and fruit juices.
- Consider going to art events. Perhaps you have passed up on a lot of art events in the previous months. Now, take summer as your opportunity to attend just one art event. This can be a new experience, and a new experience doesn’t fail to take those blues away. Visit your local art museum. Attend a cultural event, a ballet recital, a theater production, or poetry reading. You have lots of options actually. In fact, you might enjoy going to an art event, and before you know it, you are signing up for one event after another.
- Go for a long walk. Choose a place where you can just walk and take your mind off your everyday worries. It can be a local park, a trekking site, or a faraway place. Enjoy the scenery, breathe the fresh air in, feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, and unload your mind. This can be the only time of the year when you can be alone and reconnect with yourself. When you get back to your normal routine, not only are the summertime blues gone, you also are refreshed and ready to take on life challenges.
- Take a vacation. This shouldn’t necessarily be a grand vacation. This can be a two-day vacation in your grandparents’ house, in the nearest summer cottage, or by the lake. What’s important is that you go to a place you don’t normally visit, which will allow you to experience new things. Bring a notebook and a pen and write about the things you discover in that place. When you get back home, and most especially when you feel the summer blues kicking in again, read this journal and look back. You will definitely find something that will bring a smile upon your face.
Don’t succumb to the blues. When you feel the summertime blues, immediately do something that can make you occupied and cheery. Remember that summer is the time best to have fun, so make the most out of it.
