If your morning is a frantic rush to get everyone out the door in time, eating breakfast may not make it to the top of your to-do list. Forcing yourself to slurp down cereal or a piece of fruit while running out the door may upset your stomach, and have you avoiding bothering with breakfast. If you want to eat breakfast first thing in the morning, try these steps.
- Get up early to allow enough time. If rushing is what keeps you from eating, then you aren’t allowing enough time for your morning routine. Take a look at your schedule. Have you planned for thirty minutes to get ready when it really takes forty-five minutes? Look at your routine and the time it takes you at a relaxed pace. Then get up early enough so you don’t have to rush.
- Prepare your meal the night before. The more preparation you can do the night before, the smoother your morning will go. If you are having cereal for breakfast, pour some in a small covered bowl so that all you have to do is add milk in the morning. This is also a good time to prepare your lunch so you don’t have to rush or forget it while trying to get ready in the morning.
- Sip water while getting ready. Sipping water prepares your stomach for the food that will be consumed. If you start the day feeling queasy, then you need a drink before you ingest food.
- Start simple. If breakfast is not part of your normal routine, then don’t plan to start with scrambled eggs or pancakes. Try a half a bagel with peanut butter or a slice of cheese. For the first few weeks, your body needs to adjust to morning eating.
- Create a routine you can live with. Is part of the morning rush the lack of routine? Do you start every day trying to recall what you need to do before you get out the door? If so, this daily disorganization is ruining your chances of having breakfast. Develop a routine for yourself and everyone in your household. Place your clothes out the night before. Find everyone’s shoes, keys and school books and place them in designated spots near the door.
- Try a variety of tastes. For some, the idea of a heavy morning meal is overwhelming. Instead try for some variety and experiment with a breakfast shake, fruit cup or even a boiled egg. Find what taste appeals to you, then add breakfast to your routine.
Sometimes it is hard to feel like eating first thing in the morning since you have a million things to do and very little time. If you make these small changes to your morning routine, you will be able to stomach your morning meal.

I think in my case at least, the coffee has a lot to do with it. I've come to associate breakfast with 3 cups of coffee and a couple cigarettes. That's probably bad right? Than I eat an extra large lunch because I'm starving. I'm gonna try to cut down on the coffee and cigs and grab a healthy bite before I head out. Thanks for the tips
