Though the history and practice of yoga therapy can be traced back to ancient times, the modern age has adapted and developed some of its original techniques. And these new yoga techniques together with the originals are taught and learned in different Institutes offering training and certification programs in yoga.
These yoga institutes are scattered all over the world. The aim of the existing institutes is to provide and design the most appropriate training for anybody who wants to learn yoga. They too provide certifications to those who have managed to finish and complete the training course designed for them.
Most people who have taken yoga therapy training and classes often practice it for personal reasons; either to explore the mysteries of life through the discipline of yoga or enjoy the physical and health benefits that yoga offers. Some of them end up teaching and developing their own yoga discipline. One of the known modern yoga forms is Gentle Yoga - a gentler form of Hatha Yoga that teaches a person to accept himself first before asking others to accept him.
Here are some of the Institutes offering training and certification programs on yoga therapy:
- Australian Institutes of Yoga Therapy – These institutes offer a government accredited training and certification program.
- High-Tech Yoga Institutes – This is a non-profit association that devotes itself to teaching yoga and meditation as advocated by Sri Prabhuji. They offer a certification program and teacher training for those who want to teach yoga.
- White Lotus Foundation – This is a foundation that offers a certification and yoga training in the US.
- 7 Centers Yoga Arts - Sedona Arizona – This is another institution in the US that allows other to teach yoga by providing them training and certification.
Because yoga comes from different disciplines and teachings, a number of yoga styles exist. Some of the known yoga disciplines are Hatha, Karma, Bhakti, Jnana, Swara, Nada, Raja, Tantra, and Kriya. Each of the institutes of yoga follows only one yoga discipline. This specific yoga discipline is also the same yoga training that they are offering to their students.
Yoga as defined by Sanskrit (India’s ancient language) is a “union” while, “asanas” another Sanskrit word further defines it as postures or poses. These two Sanskrit words were not enough to define yoga in its deeper sense, that is why people from India uses different words to describe it. At the end, yoga was defined as the union of our mind, body and soul. The yogi, a term used for those who practice yoga, may practice a specific yoga discipline or a combination of techniques to achieve a certain level of wholeness.
Although yoga has different disciplines and styles, including those that were newly developed, the different associations and institutions that offer yoga training are all looking and advocating but one philosophy. Yoga is more than just a posture—it is a purification and union of mind, body and soul.
And, if you are one of those people who believe that yoga should be taught to others, then you better attend to your yoga training and earn your certificate to any of the existing institutes offering yoga therapy training and certification programs.
