How To Find Your State’s Medical Assistance

Medical bills are the last things an American needs to see in this time of financial crisis.  No one wants it.  Not even the rich and famous.  It will cost you your life’s savings, and what’s worse is, you are never prepared for it.  You might have insurance coverage, but it doesn’t mean that you are fully covered.  So, if you are in this kind of situation, one of your options is to apply for medical assistance from your state.  And how to find your state’s assistance program involves approaching different departments and agencies.

1. Go to your State’s Official website. All states in America are required to have a well maintained website.  It contains updated news, department functions, officials, etc.  Through this website, you can research which people or offices you have to approach so that you can avail of your state’s medical assistance.  You might also find out about other assistance that your state has been offering through that website like a disability program.
2. Approach your local government offices. Where else can you find information regarding your state’s programs to counter medical problems other than your local government?  Of course, you are not supposed to approach the mayor, but you can start by approaching the health department.  Obviously, this local government department has enough knowledge on how you can get free medications through their medication program.  Just don’t expect that this would be an easy task, because you will be asked to submit a lot of requirements before anything is done to help you. 
3. Approach social service offices. Social services people are supposed to know the programs that can provide welfare assistance to the people.  If your state is blessed with good social service programs, you can apply for medical assistance free of charge.  When you approach these people, one of your primary concerns would only be to prove to them that you are a resident of the state.
4. Go to a government hospital. Obviously, government hospitals will provide medical services to their citizens.  And by admitting yourself into one, you are automatically applying for state assistance.  If you are interested in assistance services, you can try approaching the social workers that are assigned to that hospital.  That person will have at least some knowledge regarding the protocols on how to find the assistance that you need.
5. Communicate with your insurance companies. Insurance companies are like independent states within a state.  They have their own little world that revolves around earning money.  One of the ways for them to earn money is by gathering as much information as they can.  Since they have so much information, you can tap into that, and ask them what your options are.  They will be more than willing to provide you with help that does not involve them spending money on you.

Most of the methods in finding a state-funded assistance program involves communicating with the government.  Logically, if you have questions about the state, then only the state can answer them for you.
