Headaches are a problem for many but the best way to deal with a headache is to prevent it from happening. There are several ways to keep a headache out of your life; one of which is to reduce the stress in your life. High stress will bring on headaches but by cutting back on projects, slowing down, and by managing your time more effectively, you will keep headaches at bay. Relaxing also helps all parts of the body, especially the brain. Deep breathing and walking away from stress will give you a different perspective, calm your nerves and keep headaches away. Here are some tricks to prevent headaches.

In addition to reducing stress and relaxing, changing your diet will also prevent headaches. Limiting yourself to just one cup of coffee can help reduce headaches and in some cases, or even eliminate them altogether. But, be sure to reduce the amount you drink slowly because this will help to prevent an after effect. Stay away from salami and pepperoni and aged cheeses such as brie and Swiss.

It will also help to stay away from such food and drink items such as pickles, olives, sauerkraut, snow peas, soy products, nuts, and alcoholic beverages, especially wine. When you're trying to find out if a particular food or beverage is triggering your headaches, try eliminating just one food or beverage item at a time. This way you can find out exactly what foods or drinks are bringing on the headaches.

Also, if you're smoking, stop. Smoking is known to bring on or make headaches worse. Also, research has shown that omega-three fatty acids may help to prevent migraines. Omega-three fatty acids can be found in fish, salmon and in vitamins.

Also, red wine is a beverage many enjoy; however, you need to eliminate it from your diet because it contains large amounts of tyramine. Tyramine is an amino acid that triggers headaches. However, dark grape juice is a great alternative and has wonderful immune properties. Processed meats is another food that contains tyramine, and additives. These chemicals also trigger headaches. It is thought that the additives in processed meats bring on headaches; headaches that affect both sides of the head.

In addition, there are those who think that cocoa and chocolate bring on migraines but at this point, there is not enough evidence to support such a claim.

One of the best ways to cure headaches is to eat a well-balanced diet; a diet that includes fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains. Also, studies have shown that by eating more fish, foods rich in calcium such as broccoli and kale, oatmeal, wheat and foods that contain ginger and Cayenne pepper can help reduce headache pain.

Don't skip meals because when you do, often a headache will follow. The best way to keep headaches away as lunch and dinner approach, is to eat your meals at a regular time and make sure that they are balanced.
