The wedding dress is bought, the fittings are done, and the big event is only months away. This is a very stressful time for a bride-to-be and the last thing she needs to worry about is weight gain. There are a number of steps the bride can do to prevent weight gain before she walks down the aisle. Follow these steps for how to ensure that the bride fits into her wedding gown on her special day.
- Exercise daily. Even if there is not enough time in the day, strive for at least a 30 minute walk during the lunch hour. This does not have to be done all at once. Doing 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the afternoon will work just as well. This is the perfect time to relieve any stress or anxiety one may feel about the upcoming wedding. It is also a good time to go over any planning that still needs to be done. If walking is out of the question due to weather conditions, join the walkers at the local mall or go to the YMCA.
- Eat a healthy diet. Stress can cause a person to eat more than usual. If stress does play a role in your eating habits then healthy food should be the food of choice. Try eating smaller portion meals and have small healthy snacks of fruits and vegetables throughout the day. Avoid the last minute urge to do fast food and stay away from sweets such as ice cream, cake, and donuts.
- Drink lots of water. This statement is heard quite often but it is true. Water is very important in a healthy diet. Drinking water can make you feel full and lessen the desire to eat.
- Join a gym for the year before the wedding. Just getting up and working out before or after work can keep the goal of weight loss fresh in your mind. Most gyms offer some type of aerobics or jazz class. Be creative with your workout and mix it up a little because exercise can become boring if you are only using the treadmill every day. If yoga sounds interesting try signing up for a yoga class.
- Consider the buddy system for added support. Some people have a hard time staying focused on diet and exercise doing it alone. Asking a friend, one of the bridesmaids, or even the groom to join in as a partner can help everyone keep the weight off before the wedding.
Keeping oneself active is the key to avoiding weight gain. Physical activities such as biking, hiking, swimming, even bowling can help the body stay active and burn calories. Relaxing activities such as reading and scrapbooking are also beneficial. These activities reduce boredom which can lead to increased eating and weight gain.
