In my earlier article I described that according to the great Yogi Patanjali, people are afflicted with five types of pain. These are false knowledge (avidya), egoism (asmita), anger (raga), jealousy (dvesha) and fear of death (abhinivesh). So long as people have false knowledge they depend upon unseen power and don't try to change their lot. Rich and powerful people develop egoism and remain in constant conflict with others. This creates anger and jealousy. Ultimately such people remain under constant fear of death. In order to overcome such pain Patanjali has suggested to practice meditation. The aim of meditation is to realize the Self. Such realization develops true knowledge and as a result egoism, anger, jealousy and fear of death evaporates.
- Initially Patanjali described pain. Then he gave meditation as a solution. After that he discloses that the root cause of all pain is action (karma). According to science every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Similarly in spiritualism it is described that every action is associated with a result. For good action there is a good result and for bad action there is a bad result. Again, if there is no action there is no result.
- Since a person's action is responsible for their result or fate, a man is the maker of his own destiny. If there is unseen power then it is the power of the Self. Destiny and divine power are your own. When this is realized, your false knowledge disappears. You learn to live bravely in society.
- When a man realizes that he is the maker of his own destiny by the advent of true knowledge, his egoism, anger and jealousy disappears. He realizes that fear of death is unfounded. He can live so long as he wishes and follows the path of Yoga.
So one should concentrate upon action (karma) in order to get good results so that any pain may not occur.
