Meditation is the greatest natural stress and headache reliever. We will attempt to show the beginner a way to lessen headaches through meditation. Before we begin be sure to have a comfortable chair and a quiet place in which to sit. Be sure that all radios, cd's and televisions are turned off so that you will not be distracted. Meditation should be very personal, as meditation is a matter of communicating with yourself.
To begin your meditation be sure you are sitting upright in a very comfortable chair and your feet are set firmly on the floor. Do not lay on the bed as you may fall asleep and the meditation process will be lost. When you are comfortably situated place your arms on the arms of the chair with the right palm of your hand up and the left palm down. This is representative of giving and receiving thoughts and answers.
When you feel comfortable then relax in spite of what might be a raging headache. Take three very deep breaths. Inhale through the nose and exhale through the mouth. After the third deep breath you should feel a little more relaxed. Now visualize a place in which you would feel free and comfortable such as a tree lined path with flowers and a clear blue sky. If you choose this scene then visualize yourself walking on this path on a clear warm day. Do not think about the headache because at this point you will notice that it is slowly lessening. Continue to walk on this path until you come to a clearing where there is a clear pond and waterfall. Feel the warmth of the sun, visualize yourself disrobing and entering the warm water and walk to the waterfall. Let the sun warmed water fall over you soothing you and further lessening the pain in your head and any other pain you may have. When the headache is gone visualize yourself slowly coming out of the water, getting dressed and walking back down the path to where you started.
Now it is time to stop the meditation. Count to three slowly and on the count of three you will be back in your chair free of any stress and headache. To relieve stress and lessen headaches through meditation is a safe and healthy way and supersedes any type of pain medication. If your headache is due to a stressful situation then you can ask what you can do to relieve that situation. While in a deep meditation you will have an answer. Not by any voice in your head but by a knowing that you will have upon awakening. Perhaps because you have always had the answer but just did not bring it to the forefront.
